My wife and I are going to build a house and I'm wondering about the garage size for a 619. Ranger says with the tongue swung motor down it shoud measure 22"5.
One of the homes has only a a 21"10 garage. I was wondering if you guys think I could angle it in and make it fit in two car size of the garage, she could park her car in the 3rd stall. I'm trying to convince her on the other model house to build with the 23 foot garage.

Hiya,

I would think the contractor could adjust the garage size to add one more rafter for the garage making it 23'-10" rather than the 21' - 10" That would give you some extra room to play with as well. Depending on what set-back requirements are from roads, etc if you are in a residential area, it really should not be a problem. Just have to be sure the concrete guys pouring footings and making the walls get the message. This is assuming the garage has its own rafters on a gable end as compared the house. If it does not, then you are somewhat stuck.

If the rafters go the same direction as the rest of the house, then you could angle the boat in to get it to fit, bu I believe you would be angling it enough that you might end up going into two garage slots

Any contractor should be able to do this without issue given a gable ended garage. This way, you get the house she wants with the garage size you want to fit the boat...

See if you can get an actual measurement off a 619 with the tongue closed. It may measure a bit shorter than listed (this happened with me and my Lund Predator - per the Lund website specs it shouldn't be fitting in my garage but it is actually shorter than listed so it barely clears the door)

When we built our house we had the contractor push the third stall back an additional 8 feet. The original blueprint called for a stairwell to the basement in this area. We eliminated the stairwell which got us most of this space for free (actually saved us some money by eliminating the stairwell). This left plenty of room to leave the Ranger parked without angling it, as well as room for the indoor part of an indoor/outdoor kennel and also a fish/game cleaning area with a big utility sink. That extra space has been worth its weight in gold.

go long ... nothing worse than having to angle em, i have to do that and it's a pain in the nice try. i have dreams of big garages ... if you can make a choice go 23'10"

I'm building this summer too and you can make the garage any size you want...it's all about how much you want to spend....
Specs for my garage are 46 feet wide 30 feet deep in the 2 car area and the Ranger stall will be 40' deep w a 12' wide door.
I currently back it into a standard 9' door and it's tight.... screw that.. make your garage at least 2' bigger than you think you need imo..it's fairly cheap sq footage in the grand scheme of things
I'd have him put at least a 10' wide door on that stall too....as everyone tells me...you can never make your garage 'too' big!

The builder cannot extend the garage. I will have to angle it or just get the bigger house with the bigger garage like I want!

Get a different builder! If he can't make the garage bigger, he's not a home builder, he's just a contractor.

I made my boat stall 25 deep with a 10 X 8 door. A week after putting the boat in the stall the first time, I wish I had moved the stairs back another 9 feet! 10 X 8 foot door is minimum.

Hi Guys,

Much of that depends on the design of the house. If the garage is under another level and the trusses all run the same way as the house, the garage cannot be extended. The entire HOUSE would have to be extended by that same amount, which would add a tremendous amount of money to building the house.

I'd be interested in seeing the house layout, just because I like looking at those things...

My wife and I just built a new house in Savage, MN and we discussed with our builder the option to put a bigger 3rd stall in which they were happy to do, at a cost of couse. I too had the go as big as possible but due to city codes, etc. we were limited, but still far bigger than the "stock" garages they include. Make sure you put a minimum of a 9' wide door on the 3rd stall, the 8's that typically come with it aren't enough. And if I could do it again I would put 8' tall doors in, totally escaped me in the planning process. Good luck.

go with 10 if you can, most boats these days are 96~102 inches wide on the trailer... 9 feet is only 108" wide... go w 10" or I'm going 12" for a wider snowmobile trailer in the winter... how tall are your doors skyblaster? 7?

BNelson, I am SUPER jealous of your garage set up. My doors are only 7' tall, standard from our builder (and most in our area) and a stupid oversight on my part not to catch it. Luckly with my motor I still have a 3-4" of clearance when on the transome saver. I have a Fishhawk so I have about 4-5" on each side of the boat through a 9' door. Haven't managed to clip it yet so that is a plus. We went the biggest garage that our lot would allow (typical residental lot).

designs are easily changed..going thru all this house designing the last 2 months anything can be changed, yah it might add some cost but one thing i would never do is skimp on the garage size...

Apparently Ryland homes cannot do it. We would have liked to get a more custom builder but out if our price range.

where are you having your house built? there must be another builder that can do the work for you. it's your house have it built the way you want it or you will never be happy with it.

Your house is where you eat, S,S, & S. Your garage however....Mmmmm... can never be too big! I was in a garage shop a couple weeks ago that I would die for. The guy had one stall with a 5Ton overhead crane, another one had a hoist, The shop was a wood /metal combination and then an office area...carpeted, TV, Stereo, Kegmeister had it all. His crowning glory was the bathroom complete with heated toilet seat!! Make it bigger than you think you need, don't worry you use it.

Cut out the back wall and build a box out seen it many time very easy if ur handy. One foot wider than your motor all the around. Any builder SHOULD be able to do this in 30 mins on new construction, unless your below grade than your sol

IMO If I was building new I wouldn't do the box out the back deal. Just my opinion. Design the garage then design the house around the garage. Priorities!!!! Whats the cost difference between the two houses?

I would be sure to measure you 619 with the outboard fully trimmed up as well. Plus, like everyone else has said, you are going to want room to be able to walk behind and in front of the trailer to move around in there.

make sure you have your electrician put an outlet in the wall as close to your onboard charger as well. i had mine put in directly where the charger is in boat. gonna work slick!

outlets in the ceiling are nice too, ie. vacuuming etc. or when you get in the boat to plug in the on board charger (depending on where it is) you can simply stand up and plug it in... other things: good trough style drains in the floor and ceiling fans over the boat.
hot and cold running water and a hose hookup in the garage is nice...and a fish cleaning station if you fish for 'bait'

had to put the outlets on the wall.. ceilings are 13 feet high. put in two drains in the floor also. one under vehicle side and the other under boat.
