Posts: 166 Location: Merrill, Wisconsin | How's everyone like his reel? Anybody use the 300 size for musky or just the 400? I see a few on the trading post for pretty cheap. Thanks for any advice!

Posts: 568 Location: Lake St Clair | I've got on in the 400. Nice reel for the money. I use it for smaller baits. Put a power handle on it as well.

Posts: 568 Location: Lake St Clair | 8s are the biggest I've thrown with it. I'm sure it'll handle it but I wouldn't do it all the time.

Posts: 147 Location: Northern New Jersey | i throw 8's with mine. 10's pull pretty hard with it. i bet the 300 size would be great or smaller jerkbaits and topwaters

Posts: 1023 | I have the 300 size on my jerk bait rod. Like it. There is no significant difference between 300 and 400 size other than line capacity and the 300 is cumfy.

Posts: 87 Location: Wisconsin | I just throw 10s once in a great while and a little bit at night but ill probably look for a power handle just to make that easier plus comfort with 8s etc

Posts: 151 Location: West of the metro, MN | The Cardiff is my main reel, right now. I use it for 10's,12's, dawgs, everything. For the price it's a nice rig but for in that price range I'm going to stick with Abu's from now on. Or buy used, higher quality reels

There is no significant difference between 300 and 400 size other than line capacity and the 300 is cumfy. Only difference I can think of is pretty sure the 300/301 size does NOT have a line out alarm or clicker for trolling where I believe the 400/401 size does. I used a 401 Cardiff when I first started Musky fishing and had no complaints with it for the money.

Posts: 8782 | I have a 301 that I used for my first few seasons. I think I paid $129 for it?? Never had a problem with it. I've has several more expensive reels break in much less time.

Posts: 1023 | I have owned 3 and they all outlasted abus by a long shot and yes the 300 series has no clicker.

Posts: 127 | 300 also has a higher gear ratio. 5.8 vs 5.2
