How's everyone like his reel? Anybody use the 300 size for musky or just the 400? I see a few on the trading post for pretty cheap. Thanks for any advice!

I've got on in the 400. Nice reel for the money. I use it for smaller baits. Put a power handle on it as well.

8s are the biggest I've thrown with it. I'm sure it'll handle it but I wouldn't do it all the time.

i throw 8's with mine. 10's pull pretty hard with it. i bet the 300 size would be great or smaller jerkbaits and topwaters

I have the 300 size on my jerk bait rod. Like it. There is no significant difference between 300 and 400 size other than line capacity and the 300 is cumfy.

I just throw 10s once in a great while and a little bit at night but ill probably look for a power handle just to make that easier plus comfort with 8s etc

The Cardiff is my main reel, right now. I use it for 10's,12's, dawgs, everything. For the price it's a nice rig but for in that price range I'm going to stick with Abu's from now on. Or buy used, higher quality reels

Only difference I can think of is pretty sure the 300/301 size does NOT have a line out alarm or clicker for trolling where I believe the 400/401 size does. I used a 401 Cardiff when I first started Musky fishing and had no complaints with it for the money.

I started with a 400 for my first season they are a nice reel for the money. I gave it to my son and he still uses it as his maiin reel.

I have a 301 that I used for my first few seasons. I think I paid $129 for it??

Never had a problem with it. I've has several more expensive reels break in much less time.

I have owned 3 and they all outlasted abus by a long shot and yes the 300 series has no clicker.

300 also has a higher gear ratio. 5.8 vs 5.2
