| I have seen the posts by others either really happy about purchasing something at one of the shows or complaining about paying too much (sometimes as little as 50 cents more) for an item. As a Maryland resident, the Musky shows were at least 1000 miles away in the past. This year, thanks to the Pittsburg show, I can get to a show that is only 250 miles away. I'm really excited about this great opportunity to attend the first pure Musky show on the east coast. However, I'm wondering why most of us are going?
I figure my (min) expenses will be as follows:
1. room (3 days) - $165.00
2. car (I decided to rent one) - $150+ gas
3. food - $100
4. tickets (3 days) $15
I'm sure I forgot something, so lets say it will most likely cost me $500 to go to the show for three days. That's $500 before I spend any money. There's no way I can save money by going to the show if you figure my expenses.
Now, how bout' if I go for these other reasons:
1. look at new equipment not available where I live
2. maybe buy some of that equipment. Of course, I'm not going to worry about the price because I will be happy just being able to find equipment that is not available where I live and will get to see it for the first time outside of a catalog. No musky stuff in the stores here.
3. get to meet new people - some of you on the board.
4. get to see, hear & maybe meet my "fishing heroes." I have all the tapes, books, etc. However, this will be my first (and maybe last) chance to see or meet any of these guys/gals. A great opportunity to learn something.
My first thought about going to the show is: "wow, I can buy a lot of equipment with an expenditure of $500." However....it seems to me the fun alone is worth the money! Your thoughts? |

| I just think the Minnesota Musky Expo is kind of fun and very different from the other Sports Shows.
GO for the Seminars mostly.
People watching is fun.
Talk to other Musky People I don't seem to see but once a year living on an Island all summer.
Meet NEW Musky Folk.
Listen to everyone Nag about the food!
Maybe Haggle a FREE lure or Two?
Laugh a lot.
Watch to see how much Bonnie spends on her NEW stash of lures each time out!
Women has a THREE very large Boxes of Lures.
Got to love that eh?
Fun stuff.
Sign fake & worthless Autographs, as some people think I'm Bob Seager, Randy from Alabama, Michael McDonald or Johnny Winters old bass player?
I don't spoil the fun!
LOL

| Support your tackle dealers for one, take in a few seminars, check out the new baits and talk with people that have the same sickness as we do---MUSKIES, MUSKIES, MUSKIES, how can we catch more Muskies.[:praise:] |

| Good qustion Kid, I go sometimes because I have to work at the Mn show from time to time. I have given up some sponsorship in the last couple of years so that I don't have to work at the shows. I just go look, listen and learn. Reading your post I have to say that we here in the heart of Muskie country sometimes take what we have for granted. I can drive about an hour and be at Thornes in MN or head East and be at Crazy Dees in about the same time. 3 hours to Rollie & Helen's. Many local sportshops with quite a good amount of Muskie tackle. You folks out East are the "Real Muskie Nuts". You have to work hard just to spend your hard earned $$$$. I really go to the shows to see all the new stuff and to BS with all those folks I only see at the shows or at a tourney from time to time. I guess I am just crazy about those Skie's like the rest of you folks.[] |

| I use to go to shows to see if I could find some deals but that has fallen to the wasteside, now I just go to BS with fellow muskie nuts and exchange stories. Al[:p] |

| Muskyone: I've thought about it and think there are fair trade-offs when it comes to Musky fishing here.
1. actually (generally speaking), we don't have Muskies at all. We have Tigers down here in Maryland.
2. No they don't get as big as the "naturals" up north. However, there's a good chance I can get a 36-42" inch fish fairly often. Occasional 20 pounders do come.
3. With my schedule (police officer) I can be on the water by 2:30 everyday if I want. I usually go 3-4 days a week. Most people are not that lucky.
4. Although all the lakes with Tigers in them are electric only, I can get to 3 of them within 15-30 minutes of my house. Most of the lakes are 500 acres or so. With a proper set-up, one can outfit their boat fairly well for this type of fishing, including trolling (I use mulitiple motors and batteries).
5. we can cast or troll
6. Although the lakes receive a lot of fishing pressure, almost none of it is for Tigers (this is LM Bass country). Few people know how to catch Tigers skillfully. I kind of feel like it's virgin territory. Stocking started in 1992 in the lakes here. Fish are reaching upper 20+ pound sizes now.
7. little inform. or tackle available here (actually none at all)- thanks to this board and others like it, along with the publications, tapes and now this expo, I can acquire it.
8. no closed season. However, most of the lakes do close from Dec. to March 1. However, like anywhere else, "hardwater" would stop most people anyway.
9. The DNR is doing a great job of stocking down here. I can assure you that the lakes have a lot of Tigers in them and they can be caught if you are willing to put the time in. However, everytime I think I have them figured out...[] See you in Pittsburgh - Tom |
