I use my tranx hg for 10's, 8's, twitching cranks, and rubber. I am sure it would be good for jerks and gliders but I cannot work my baits fast enough. |

I have tried many different reels in the past, and keep coming back to Shimano. I don't think I will stray from them any longer. |

| I like the revos for comfort but the calcuttas hold up better in the long run. If you're not on the water more than 15-20 days a year I'd go with the revos for the sole fact of them fitting your hand and their comfortability. I made the switch from winch's to calcutta's for blades and big cranks due to the fact that I don't want to deal with sending reels in while the fishing season is in full swing. I still use the hs revos for dawgs, jerks and WTD top waters but I have to keep an extra one on hand @ all times due to the problems I've had with them. I'd like Shimano to come out with something between the Curado 300 and the Tranx in a high speed low-profile reel. |

| I keep up on my reel maintenance better than most. I'm not sponsored by Shimano so I have no personal interest in my critique. Shimanos hold up better in the guide boat. I love fishing with the revos....until the thumbar jams and I spend an hour trying to fix it while running the trolling motor trying to stay on a breakline and figure out a pattern for the day with clients in the boat. I will still tell people to buy revos because they're the beefiest low-profile reel out there without having to strap a brick (Tranx) to your rod. I wouldn't even consider a tranx a low-profile reel but it's not round so I guess it falls into that category. I'm just speaking from personal experience with the revos. If anyone else wants to chime in I'd like to hear what you have to say. |

| when the thumb bar gets jammed just press it down again, releases it no problem. I love the revos. The 61 5:4:1 is my favorite reel ever. I also am really impressed with the new 401D |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Grease the Teflon pads on the sides of the thumb bar and you won't have this problem with the revo reels.
I have one that had a flaw with the drive shaft and that has been the only problem for mine. My reels get used a ton... |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | On any Toro if it is a right hand reel put a dot with a marker on the thumb bar on the handle side of the thumb bar and put your thumb on the dot to push down and the bar will not jam. If it is a left hand Toro then the left side or handle side. The thumb on a 60 Toro is very wide and over time will jam if you push it down on the far side from the handle side. |

| Love my 60's but the thumbbar is plastic and will wear out - I have two from 2009 - I finally wore them out, but abu fixed both (replaced 3 parts) and cleaned for $25 each. thought that was a good deal, should have back today or tomorrow - hopefully they are back to near new  |

And, the thumb bar on my 400D is plastic. Just checked. |

| they wear out period, the fact they took 4 years of abuse from me is top notch,.. I never had one jam either? but kick lever,clutch link and lift curve, wear out eventually.. when you actually get out and muskie fish 75+ days a year for 4 years, all reels have issues. I'm sure they last longer fishing bluegills. |

Location: MN | Anecdotal evidence is just that. And I have no skin in the game nor anything bad to say about the Toro in general. However I owned and tried two, and believe me I know where and how to depress a thumb bar, but both of mine had problems with that exact issue shortly after getting them. And with very little use on them. I understand you get a lemon now and then, I just chose not to subject myself to the issue and got rid of them after having Abu "fix" them. Same thing happened to one that I sold to a buddy. So while I'm sure many or even most may have had zero problems, they certainly weren't non-existent. |

The kick lever issue has been solved since the 01 batch of the Toros. Look under the reel feet. If the last two digits are 01, or higher, the reel have the new steel armored kick lever.
The Toros are as strong as the Calcuttas, but IMO need a bit more maintenance. Due to the construction, the Revos and Toros can't flush humidity well. ABU's answer to this is, remove the spool after each trip, and let the reel dry, instead of leaving it in the boat.
There is a good reason, why a Toro or any ABU multiplier are so easily to taken into tree parts  |
