Just seeking some advise on some boxes before I spend 2 bills on one. This is my second season of muskie fishing and I have quickly outgrown my 5 gal bucket this spring getting ready for this year. Are the lake woods worth the money and which one? I kinda have my eye on the muskie medium or should I go ahead and get the monster? I do have some pounders and a couple of creepers so that is why the medium looked appealing with the 3 larger slots for those baits. Just want to make sure before I invest that it is going to work for the baits I have. Thanks guys for the help! Guess I should add that I am also looking for something I can carry as well, as I don't have a boat and do all shore fishing!

No matter what you get, in a few years it won't be big enough.

if you do all shore fishing then something light is what you want, the moster is heavy when full and pretty sure a just incase box is also.buy a monster to store the baits and take a select few with you carring the bucket so you don`t get wore out walking with all your stuff.

Yeah I have now seen the light, and am getting a Just Encase box myself. There is just no other way to store as many lures, sans making something of your own. They are expensive, but with many of their larger boxes you can get over 100 baits in them. There are few boxes you can fit that many baits into.

If your fishing from shore you dont want to carry a lot of lures. Get yourself a plano 3730 and put about 8 lures in it and a 3731 for your release tools and camera and put them in a canvas bag or soft cooler with a shoulder strap. Join a Muskie club and let it be known that you are a great net boy and cameraman that would like to go fishing. When invited to fish with someone keep your gear to a minimum. I once invited a guy out who showed up with about 10 rods and two tackle boxes leaving me no room to move he wasn't invited back. 2 rods incase one fails and a few lures is lots. Save for a boat rather than buying lures . The boat will produce more fish than any lure and it need not be a fancy boat.

The Justencase boxes are nice. But fill it full of lures and you're not going to want to carry it around. You'll reach a point where there's no possible way you can carry all the lures that you own. I've tried hanging boxes, and they are nice for being able to change lures and keep things organized. But what works best for me is a tackle bag, and a bunch of Plano 3700's. Since you basically use different lures on different lakes at different times of the year, there's no reason to try to bring everything. My bag weighs a ton, but it's the stuff that lives in there - knipex, pliers, jaw spreaders, extra hooks, split rings, camera, spare hat, headlamps, etc. At any one time, I probably only have 30 lures with me, and that's way more than you actually need.

I have four monster lakewoods, one traveler, one medium, and the really small one you can throw over your shoulder when you go river fishing. Love the lakewoods. one negative to the just encase i have had personal experience with is that due to the clear plastic which makes it great to see the baits your baits get sun faded quickly i know the company says they wont but really what company would say that it did its just common sense set a bunch of baits out in the sun all summer and see what happens. Same thing is going to happen in a just encase. I have seen it

At the MN Musky show they said they are now making tinted boxes as well, might help with this issue a bit.

The unique characteristics of polycarbonate actually defy "common sense".

Test results of the polycarbonate (Makrolon) by the manufacturer (Sheffield Plastics):
1) Makrolon sheet is essentially opaque to UV light from 385 nanometers and below.
In the light spectrum this is the range where UV light resides. We cannot see UV light. 2) At approx. 1/4" thickness, the clear polycarbonate allows 84% of the visible light to pass through. Visible light is between 400 - 750 nanometers.
3) Tinted polycarbonate blocks the UV and also 42% of the infrared/solar rays (heat) transmission. Infrared rays are between 1 millimeter - 750 nanometers.
- All Just Encase boxes are now vented on both the bottom and under the lid overhang to assist in ventilation and/or drainage.

Much of this info in available on the website as well or simply do a google search. Not just a sales pitch at a Musky Expo!

I have heard that bulldawgs and Lakewoods do not mix. Something about the chemical make up ends up melting the dividers or dawg. Someone want to verify this?

Just Encase is the only way to go... Just do a Google or You Tube search to see product testimonials from all the guides using these boxes. A lot of these guys are using these boxes 180+ days a year and have no issues...

Do a little research on the materials used... Its Clearly the Best product on the market!

That's interesting. I have a Lakewood Medium with white dividers and have stored Dawgs in it the last couple years with no issues.

the only melting of dawgs in my lakewoods was when it was left in my truck too long in the warmer months. Always had dawgs in lakewoods and never dealt with the "rumored" meltdowns.

The new Lakewood dividers do not "melt" now with dawgs. The old black ones are OK as well. The newer white dividers from a few years ago would react with the new plastisol, but all the ones coming out as of recently do not.

I still use a Plano tool box, 701-001 ?, that I bought 20 years ago, and it is still strong enough to stand on.
I think it is 22"x 12" w x 13" tall. It was just an empty box until put the lure tubes in it. The tubes are just square plastic down spout for gutters, cut to about 10", it holds 21 of them in a 3 x7 pattern. The cost today is about $40 total.
I don't know if Plano builds them the same as they used to.
Also I don't put Bulldawg type plastics in it, I use Plano 3700 deep boxes for them.
It's not nearly as fancy as those nice Justincase boxes, but it works good, costs little, and has lasted a long time.
