I had a question for those of you that have switched your Winch from a 4.6:1 gear ratio to 5.4:1 or any Revo Toro conversion really. After following the advice on the boards I decided to give them a call and was informed that they have the gears but do not sell them for conversion kits, however I was told aftermarket kits are available online but void the warranty because they aren't Abu Garcia made gears. I got the feeling that people were able to order the gears right from Abu Garcia with no problem as long as they had the reel foot numbers. Has anyone else gotten this response from them? Did I get in contact with the wrong service representative? Has Abu discontinued the service and I need to consult a reel specialist? I'd prefer to do this quickly and cheaply myself...

Just look up a schematic for a Toro (left or right, whatever you use) and order the parts by the number.

Well that makes sense. Before I make a mistake all I will need to order are the Main Gear, Pinion Gear, and Pinion Gear Holder? Those would be parts numbers 44, 33, and 31 respectively on the diagrams? I'm trying to do this for 2 Winch models, one has the the 19 00 19/30 AK foot number (can I assume that corresponds to the 18 00 foot numbered 5.4?) and the other has 01D 11 AK but came with 19 01 schematics in the box (can I assume that the 01D is the same as the 19 01 and thus will need to order parts from the 18 01 5.4 ratio?). So... corresponding items for reels with foot numbers
18 00 = 19 00 and
18 01 = 19 01 = 01D ?

You have to make sure both models (winch and 5.4:1) have the same spool and drag parts numbers. Once you find that in each drawing with the same spool and drag parts then order the the main gear, pinion gear, and yoke for the 5:4.1. Note - if both share the same yoke number, then you only need the main and pinion gear.

Thanks for that Gerard, that could be a real headache saver of advice! The 18 00 has a different part number for the spool than all the others, so it probably won't fit in the 19 00 properly. I never would have thought to check that, would have assumed they were all the same. Checking spool and drag parts indicates the 18 01 matches with the 19 00 and the 18 02 matches with the 19 01.

Looking to do this to my winch. Reel foot on mine is D 15 10 AK. Anyone know which model this corresponds to for the 5.4 ?

i have just finished doing a 61 winch to a hs conversion as I already have two of the 5.4:1 reels. With help from Pikemaster (getting pointed to right direction getting the right parts back in April) and I thank you Richard, I finally took down the reel to change the main and pinion gears and pinion yoke. I did have the anti-reverse dog jump out during disassembly and it took a while to figure out where that went. It looked like the yoke was the same one, but the numbers were different on the schematics. When you do this make sure you lay the drag parts out so you place them back the same way they come off. Have fun!!!!

Richard AKA PIKEMASTER has joined forces with OutdoorsFIRST as our official rod and reel service and repair specialist. I had Richard do it and he did a beautiful job! Works like a charm.
