Drop the boat in the water, put the trolling motor down, and just start fishing?

Posts: 157 | I'll be the honest one of the bunch. I get in the lake and want to drive fast for a bit. Let the milk run begin!

There is no reason to just start fishing unless the boat launch is in a good area. Some places it is, some places it isn't. Randomly fishing results tend to be rather......random.

Posts: 633 | I have one that I have seen 2 ski's within 30 yards of the landing. I always ease out, and ease in looking for fish.

I've caught fish by a few launches, but the launch was probably not the reason the fish were there. Rather the creek, weed bed, island, ramp lights attracting baitfish etc.. If its a good area the boat launch won't stop it from being a good area.. But I don't think its just the launch.. And people tend to get real close to you at full speed near these areas.. A little frustrating but oh well.

Location: Sawyer County, WI | I do. Sometimes I don't even bother getting in the boat. Last year I caught three off my dock including a 48 incher.

Posts: 3240 Location: Racine, Wi | "'Cause when you leave the launch, you leave the best fishing in the lake". I forgot who said that, but I have caught way too many fish near launches (usually early in the year) not to fish them. This past fall, I was waiting for my partner to get their, so I was ripping a 10" jake while standing in the boat tied up to the dock. Ended up losing a low 40"er next to the boat. Should have been a great start to the evening. I'm a pokey guy though that doesn't need to go fast, so I usually motor out a little, and start casting (depending on the lake I'm fishing)

Posts: 246 | One lake I do, it's electric only so why waste battery when I can start casting. Another lake I do if there isn't a lot of traffic at the launch. Too much traffic and I'll likely loose a lure to an outboard or hook a kayak. No limits on kayaks though......
