Posts: 300 | This will be my first year "playing" with the Hawg Wobbler. I've read about people tuning them, and I was just looking for a little advice to get the best action/ presentation out of the Wobbler. If you have any additional advice about the Hawg Wobbler, I'm open to suggestions.

Posts: 2389 Location: Chisholm, MN | I put a split ring on and use a fluorocarbon leader. Seems to help the action.

| Probably the best lfish catcher out the box made. Can be improved by adding larger hooks, lipt hen needs to be slightly bent down to achieve the best action. Split ring is mandatory in front and the flurocarbon leader is also a must. I night fish the hawg alot....slow, slow black, black. Hang on tight they really blast it sometimes. Great lure for the novice, all you need to do is work it slow. Super tankers like hawgs. I use it on calm water or a slight ripple only. good luck and enjoy...agreat choice Mudpuppy | |||

Posts: 2026 | I started musky fishing last year and the action of Hawg Wobblers is great. They cast a mile, so make sure you get it out in front of you. Do you other guys figure 8 them under water?

Posts: 410 Location: With my son on the water | Like the other guys have said slow is the key. If you go to fast the action gets bad. I have never had to modify one but have had several get distroyed by fish so I always carry two. Heat shrink on the rear hook helps and prevernts the prop on the back from getting hung up with the hook. Because you have to go so slow it is not a good bait to cover water but is a great bait for that last place of the day of a milk run or where you have spotted a fish. It can be a great bait for a short period in the spring when the fish are slow but the surface temp has warmed a hair, but this is a short window. It's a great bait for kids, and if you have a Revo Toro Winch that is a nice slow reel for it. I have guided lots of kids to their first ski on this bait. It is always an exciting time when that bait is out...........

Posts: 139 | i caught my 2nd biggest fish on a hawg wobbler. Probably one of the best top water baits there is. It can be boring however just slow reteiving it back to the boat. Don't let it discourage you however.

Posts: 275 | Caught my PB on one along with many others......my favorite bait by far! Split ring on the front is a must for me, getting a leader snapped in there without one can be a pain. Jaimy

Posts: 283 | I bought one this winter and can't wait to try it, I was wondering if it would be possible to "troll" it behind the boat as you cast with the trolling motor on constant?

Posts: 1307 Location: WI | Where multiple lines and trolling are legal it's worth trying Tigerhunter. My friend caught a fish on a Bondy bait doing that.

Posts: 785 | Great bait but I use them less and less as its just hard to fish three people in a boat with one out. It really dictates the speed you can go as a boat, and not many other baits can or must be fished as slowly. That said early season, night or going back on a fish its always a great option. I do go into under water figure 8's with the wobbler, its no bucktail but fish will still blast it on the turns.

Posts: 621 Location: Seymour, WI | The strikes you get with a HW are the classic slurps where the fish just suck the bait under the water, keep reeling until you feel the fish and sweep the rod.

Posts: 300 | Thanks everyone for the posts. I already have the split ring on the nose and ready to go. I'm going to try and heat shrink the back hook to keep the blade spinning. Got another week to wait, then we shall see what happens. Thanks again.

That happens, but not always. I've had fish hit it so hard that the rod is almost ripped from my hands and there is an instant ache in my arms like my bones just broke! Probably my favorite bait and all this talking about it get me pumped to use it a lot more this season.

Location: Eau Claire,WI | I fish in the Land of the HW! Terry Molton's shop is about a 10 mile drive from my home waters. Seems like everyone has one, uses them and catches fish on them.I remember one day on the river,6 different people were all using the HW, must work... I do like the HW,medium size, on post frontal conditions the smaller on seems to be good. Great fall bait too!

I grew up throwing the Hawg Wobbler and I was frustrated by its several drawbacks. I couldn't speed up the retrieve and I couldn't take it sub-surface for my figure-8. The Tin Head throws the same amount of water, has a distinct sound, can be retrieved at any speed, can be "figure-8"ed sub-surface AND never fouls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWeLi2SJ650&list=UUrov1VQR-LLo7sK31P...
