Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two graphs beside the obvious down imaging on the DI model? Is there a reason to get the standard HD over the HD DI?

I ask as the price is the same. Any help is greatly appreciated as I will be ordering this on Thu!

I just took a quick look at the HB site and from the specs it looks to me like the difference is the dual-beam being 83/200khz for the non-DI and 200/455 for the DI. You get a wider 60 deg cone with the 83khz.
Whether you're planning to use it on the bow (at fishing speed) or on the console at driving speed would be a factor in which would be more useful to you.

Thanks MDC. This unit will be used at the bow. My counsil unti will be a 998c HD DI.

That said which unit in your opinion is better at the bow? I know next to nothing when it comes to locators, Khz, and so forth.

My 2 cents is that DI doesn't have much value fishing at fishing speeds at the bow and I'd rather have the wider 60 deg cone. In order to get quality image from either down or side image you need to be moving forward in a relatively straight line and sonar view is much more useful when moving very little or sitting still or drifting sideways rather than moving forward.

I should add that I'm really not sure whether there's any difference in the two units internally, and its entirely possible that you could hook either type of transducer up to either box and it would function fine as is or by loading different software on the unit.

You could call HB and ask about that if you were concerned with being able to switch at a later date.

If for some reason you destroyed the transducer on the front you could not use the signal from the console to the front if you don't have a di unit. The transducer on the di only unit is a different frequency than the c and si models.
