Posts: 383 | Elbow grease. Seriously. When I picked up my 681, the hull was pretty badly oxidized. I gave my then-12 year old $20 to spend the weekend running a buffing wheel over it. That and a bottle of Star Brite hull polish. Best $20 I ever spent. It all came back.

Posts: 190 | I'm working on a Tuffy restoration, elbow grease is right. I spent 4 hours on just the transome. The starting point was chalky black oxidized gel coat. Rubbing compound 1st, fill gel coat holes, another rub compound coat, then mcguriers boat Restoration. (deoxidizer, polish, wax). The end result was no oxidation and mirror finish

Location: Sun Prairie, Wisconsin | I saw hooked's 681when he first purchased his boat... you wouldn't believe how much it improved after the elbow grease. Simply one of the nicest 681's you will find. Edited by Badgerpat1 3/23/2013 8:59 PM

Posts: 260 Location: Almost Heaven | I did one side today and used liquid rubbing compound and a large buffer/grinder. It started looking good and even better when i went over it again. It's a project but it's paid for so i am looking forward to getting it shaped up. Thanks for all your posts.

Posts: 68 | Buff Magic. My body shop supply guy recommended it, and said to sand the gel coat down with 800 grit first, then use a wool pad on the buffer. I haven't done the entire boat yet, but on a section that had a lot of oxidation I was very impressed. I did test section by hand too and no sanding. You can also use Buff Magic on chrome, brass and other metal finishes to really get them to shine.
