Subject: bauer creeper

I ordered a bauer creeper a while ago and I have a few questions:
1) should I splitring the hooks?
2) should I add shrinktube to the rear hook for better hook-ups?
3) should I keep my rodtip high or low when retrieving this bait?
4) Does this bait need any tinkering with or does it work straight out of the package?
5) last question: do I need a short or long leader for this lure (short = 8", long = 10")
