Posts: 14 | I am headed down to Gulf Shores, Alabama next week and will be staying on the beach in a condo. I was wondering if anybody knows anything about fishing from the beach and if so, what kind of tackle should I bring? I was thinking of bringing my penn saltwater spinning reel and a XH ugly stick. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Posts: 192 | We were down there a few years ago and I took a surf rod along. There were so many floating weeds in the water that fishing was impossible. Might not always be that way but the week we were there, that is how it was.

Posts: 2024 | That's a perfect setup and what I have used. Buy some shrimp, hook it on and toss it out as far as you can from the beach. or catch a few ghost crab at night and toss em in about 5 feet from the dropoff in the sand and something is bound to bite. You can see the fish cruising the shoreline at night. Bring a headlamp, chair and a few beverages and you are good to go. There is a bridge leading into the inter-coastal waterway that guys always are fishing for bluefish off of, I haven't tried that but am going to this summer. Head down there and ask them what they are biting on. They have always been a friendly group when I have stopped by to check it out.

Posts: 1247 Location: Walker, MN | I have not fished Alabama but in W.Florida I look for birds in the morning and evening and then cast that area with a gold spoons. Shrimp are great too. You can catch 20 species in a day! Good luck!

Posts: 44 | Bring your surf rod and some heavy weights as the surf can and will easily knock a light setup around. Shrimp on the bottom is probably your best bet. You should br able to get reds, trout and maybe some shark. Have fun on the redneck riviera.

Posts: 14 | Wow thanks for all the replies. I have done some additional reading and it seems as though shrimp with a Carolina rig is my best option. I am not looking for any specific species. I just want to catch fish.

Posts: 252 | My son and I always fish from the piers at Gulf Shores, Navarre Beach Fla, and Pensacola, Fla. We catch King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Bull Reds, sharks, Bonita, lady fish, blue fish, and ground mullet. Throwing x-raps, cigar minnows, big spoons, gotchas, and bubble rigs work well. We usually fish in may, so I'm not sure how good the bite is in March. Good Luck!! Those king mackerel are fun to catch. They kinda make me think of a salt water musky.

Posts: 14 | Unfortunately I will probably only have the time for fish from shore right outside my condo within walking distance. I am going to bring an assortment of spoons and buck tails along with Carolina rigs for live bait fishing. I am looking just to catch a few. I hope I accomplish that goal.
