Random quote: After a day where I had a dead battery, had my trolling motor go out 2x, took out my lower unit I caught a nice pike. PK says "at least she has nice shoulders" I respond "that's like saying that fat chick has nice boobs (but I didn't say boobs)" - (Added by: Muskie Treats) |

Posts: 182 | Is anyone tying foot long flies for muskies? We have several that we have been tying. I'll see if I can find somebody with more brain power than me to post some pix of our flies. We are always looking for new ideas if anyone would be willing share them.

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | I can't remember the last fly I fished that was less than 12". Most of mine 14"-18" and two to three hooks, depending. I've gotten more into tying two hooks, though three allow me slightly more versatility on feathers I can use. I'm not gonna resize all of my pics to 100 kb, so you guys are gonna get PB- http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z267/kodiaksalmon/Flies/?action=view¤t=whitechart_zps05b916f0.jpg http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z267/kodiaksalmon/Flies/?action=view¤t=hotperch_zpsd0d26997.jpg http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z267/kodiaksalmon/Flies/?action=view¤t=redhorse_zps0ff5986e.jpg http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z267/kodiaksalmon/Flies/?action=view¤t=carefree.jpg http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z267/kodiaksalmon/Flies/?action=view¤t=raccoon_zps57152889.jpg And big flies catch big muskies. 52" from this fall on a black/orange. http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z267/kodiaksalmon/?action=view¤t=PB270204.jpg Edited by esoxfly 3/10/2013 1:39 PM

Posts: 2269 Location: SE, WI. | SO; What does the (vertabrae), internal harness look like? What do you all tie to??? Looks like they are tied to a jig head...BUT, Beads and coil wire on straight wire??? Any pics under all that hair??? Thanks, JD

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | No jigs heads for me. I need flies to still be castable on a fly line through conventional means. I don't make a harness so much as I just us a loop of 125 lb Surflon or Nylostrand to join the hooks. I use beads or tubing to keep the loop closed and I have two different means of attaching aft hooks...either just on a loop allowing for more motion, or on a loop to loop style for a more rigid fly that won't foul as easy if tailing loops are a problem.

Posts: 182 | Do you ever have deep hooking issues with a several hook system as you descibe. I was tying with a two and three hook set up and had a very deep hook up and the release was questionable. Saw the strike happen near boatside and the muskie opens up and just looks like it vacums the whole fly in. I am only using a single hook (6/0-10/0) with a 12" fly and all hook ups have been in the mouth with easy hook out. May have just had a bad experience. But once is more than enough for me. The flies you have been tying are amazing. Everyone has there own form of art.

Posts: 1100 | Got to play a little with all the materials and techniques today, and wanted to share it with you guys haven’t tried them yet, as I’m still waiting for my rod. All shown on a pounder lemontail. Hope you like them Had to untie some of them halfway and start over as they didn’t looked like i wanted them to. First of a longer flash fly than I normally make, as I saw my buddys flash fly in the water and the long tail looked amazing. http://imageshack.us/a/img14/8213/jwoh.jpg Lemon head fly with dumbbell eyes. http://imageshack.us/a/img823/872/6dfo.jpg Black fly with epoxy head and eyes glued to on. http://imageshack.us/a/img194/5529/ihwy.jpg Black fly with yellow dumbbell eyes and epoxy head. http://imageshack.us/a/img822/9312/c1tu.jpg A little lady like fly with dumbbell eyes. http://imageshack.us/a/img89/3923/t90q.jpg And at last a beast of a yellow popper. http://imageshack.us/a/img13/3286/knc8.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img546/6517/pmpl.jpg
