I am pretty new to all this lure making stuff... if anyone could help me that would be great. I want to know, if you're making a wooden propbait like a Top Raider, can you carve a peice of wood for the tail part that spins? I love carving things and would rather have a wooden prop then a plastic or metal one if possible. It may be a dumb question but I dont know... Thanks for any help!

I dont think that you could get the sound wich is more important than the tail just spinning. You never know tho. All you can do is try

I’m kind of agreeing with Matt, but Dahlberg does it with rubber so maybe.  I’d use a dense heavy wood.

Yes, this definitely can be done! I've seen wooden prop sections on lures...tricky part is making them small enough to be part of a traditional tail popper lure and yet have enough strength on thin edges not to chip or break when an errant cast sends them into a rock or something.

Of course you can. You can also make a balloon out of lead.
You'd need to pick a wood with a grain pattern and density that resists cracking.
Maybe even a burl.
Might even do some kind of epoxy impregnation like bamboo rod makers used to do.

Unless you're making more of an art project than a lure for catching fish it's usually best to follow the old rule, "Form follows function"!

No dumb questions except the same question asked repeatedly.

Have fun
