| I may soon be moving to St Cloud MN, I see Millie Lacs is just about an hour north and was wondering how good the Musky fishing is on Millie Lacs?
I have fished Lake of the Woods and was wondering about a comparision bewteen the two lakes.
What else should I think about id living in St Cloud? Any other good musky water close to St Cloud MN? |

| Where is Millie Lacs?? 
No comparison. LOTW is scenic. Mille Lacs is not. You can fish *almost* anywhere on LOTW in strong winds. Good luck fishing the north end of Mille Lacs with a south wind. Incredible casting structure on LOTW and while Mille Lacs has lots of castable water, it's not on the same level as LOTW. Fish size? You might give that one to Mille Lacs, though LOTW kicks out its fair share of big ones, too.
These are two extremely different bodies of water. For starters, just look at them on a map. |

Lucky! I'd put some time in on Miltona and Alex too....and ya Mille Lacs is nothing like LOTW other than species present....Giants there, but even the best guides go days/weeks without fish on "the pond"

| Like others said, no comparison between ML and LOTW. ML has a very low number of muskies per acre of water but you could catch the biggest fish of your life. On the other hand, Sugar is the closest muskie lake from cloud town. Next closest would be Alexander and Shamineau. The Miss. River in town and to the north is turning into a pretty good muskie fishery too. Good luck. |

| Well if you want a quick fix go to mille lacs or you are close enough to be at LOTW in about 3hrs. LOTW is awesome personally ive seen gigantic muskies bigger than any thing thats been caught in mille lacs but thats seeing and a bit different than catching. couple of years back between raspberry and little raspberry island where the old car is if its still there had 1 nipping at my bucktail (black and orange) you could have put a NFL football in its mouth sideways and would have not been able to see it. MONSTER FISH honest guess would be 60" to 62". |

| yes you are correct jaultman its about 5 hrs when in the company of good friends time goes by fast and seems like 3. it has been a few years sense ive been back up that way. good news travels fast but bad news travels even faster. i thought i would have maybe heard something positive out of my experience. but it is infact a five minute boat ride from red wing lodge just across the bay to that spot. |

| The DNR started stocking the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes in 2011, which is part of the Sauk River system. That chain is very close to St. Cloud. (30-40 minutes?) It probably won't be kicking out fish for a few more years (4-5), but soon you'll have a nice system with over 3000 acres of water and a diverse forage base.
Other options were listed as well. Plenty to choose from, not as tightly knit as metro, but definitely some great choices and will get better once the chain gets rolling. |

as others have said, you can go days, even weeks on ML without a fish in the boat, there is a big name guide who put the potential state record in the boat this fall that I believe caught 3 muskies in over a month on the water. yes. 3 fish. That takes some patience, but it paid off. You have soooo many options within 1.5 hours of St. Cloud though. You should feel very good about the lakes in that area! Good luck. You'll be in musky heaven! |

I have not fished either lake, but even I know if you are going to try and have a good trip with lots of action you should head up to LOTW. The Pond you have a shot at a fish of a lifetime. It's all subjective, and depends what you are looking for.

| Lots of good choices not too far away. It all depends on what you are looking for.
Sugar Lake is less than 30 minutes from St. Cloud and has good size and decent density. Very clear body of water.
Lake Alexander and Lake Shamineau are in the 30 minute range as well and are both fun lakes to fish. Very good densities and size here as well.
Miltona, Lobster, and Oscar are all about 45 minutes on 94 by Alexandria. Miltona gives you the biggest fish, but Lobster and Oscar are worth a look too.
The Mississippi River has a few sections near this area that have good muskie fishing.
If you want a true giant, Mille lacs is the place to go. Cedar lake isn't far from here and will give you some action.
Round lake by Alex and Shamineau is a tiny pond and no real tankers, but you should get an encounter or two.
There are plenty of other options too depending on where you want to drive and what you are looking for. |

| The pond; you either love it or hate it. I live just down the road from it, its my lake, its where I fish, its where I beat my brains out trying to catch HER, she's there, she really is. I've never personly met her, but I've had dealings with her two sisters and they were both fat, ugly, mean, good guyes, I fell in love. The Pond is the toughest lake that I fish, the least fish per hour I've ever had except for The Chip, but thats another story. I get mad, frustrated and sometimes just flat POed, but I keep going back, you know it can be everything you ever dreamed when you finally hook up with HER. When you get to the point you can't throw big rubber or tails anymore the smallie fishing will just blow ya away. Find a good weather app and learn the wind, The place aint purdy but it has some huge fish. This spring going to go after some of them 40lb carp been seeing, gotta love the place. |
