I make something that i can attach to my knipex cutters just
in case i drop them in the water, i was thinking about using cork from wine
bottles.

Has anyone done it?

Beach ball float that's used for sucker fishing. Easy to tie right to the knipex.

I have also foreseen this issue and have brainstormed a few ideas, but haven't acted on any of them. I think it can be as simple as a piece of heavy string with a float that will keep it from sinking.

I think you would need a pretty big float, a wine bottle cork would not work! What about a lanyard that clips to your belt loop or something.

I don't want something too big,so it doesn't get in the way if i have to cut hooks?

I'm going to use a rope or braided line attached to the cutters with shrink wrap. I'm
not sure what would be good for the float.

Yep, one of those big floats used for suckers. Just tie enough line on it so it is out of your way when cutting hooks. Although, the line may end up getting wrapped up in the hooks then. Just use thick enough rope so it's not getting wrapped up into everything.

How bout a couple of those floating boat keychains? Might not be bouyant enough with the weight of the cutters. Imo, i would use the big ole' bobber.

alternate to the float, just add a strap that goes around your wrist.

I'd forget the float.
Big clamp to go on to the boat rail...one or two long lengths of spiral telephone handset cable taped to it....other end taped to Knipex. Put a take-apart-keychain in the phone cable so you can remove the pliers when you don't want a long cable permanently attached. I use 2 lengths of the spiral cable.

There are many different methods you can do. I ending up having a friend drill a hole through the handle. Rope through the hole, tied then used shrink tubing over the handle. I then tied a carbineer to the other end which attaches to the net frame. This works for me but like I said there are other methods. Friend of mine uses retraceable dog leashes that are tied to the tool then clipped on the net frame.

Why not just put a lanyard on the knipex that goes around your wrist? A float or any extra rope seems dangerous if/when a fish spins with a bait in its mouth.

Ok thanks everyone for their input. I'll see if I use a float or a lanyard.

I use one of those retractable dog leashes. Mounted it to the side of boat it works great.

A toilet bowl float or cut a piece off a swim noodle & attach with a thin rope.
