Really nice video. Shows you how intelligent the muskie really is. It doesn't look like they were much tempted to hit the baitfish. Question: What would have happened if ice angler had a six inch sucker hanging in the water instead of a jigged minnow?

Always fun to watch them swimming around. It's funny how they will swim like that and pay no attention to a jig or shiner on a tip up, but they ARE active and can sometimes be quite agressive under the ice. Last weekend I was catching crappies 25 feet down over 40 feet of water. I had just pulled a crappie out of the hole when my transducer float went "PLUNK" under the water and started taking off. I grabbed the cord and the fish held on to my transducer for 5 seconds or so. I didn't get a look at it.
Last winter in the same general spot I caught a 42ish that grabbed a crappie on the way up.
A few years ago I had one hit a bluegill that I was bringing in. We had a camera down also. The musky let go of the bluegill and I reeled it up. Seconds later it smoked the camera! My buddy started hand over handing the camera in, and it held on until its nose hit the bottom of the ice hole.
Even in the winter, when they are in the mood to eat, they are going to eat!

A slow fish doesn't always mean you need a slow presentation (or a small one). Most muskies I see under the ice move around similarly to how that one was. I think if they are moving that much they're hunting. A hooked (struggling and erratic) bigger meal (bluegills and crappies measuring from 6 - 12 inches) seems to trigger something in them.
I'm not targeting muskies in the winter, but on several incidents I've seen a hooked panfish make a musky come fairly unglued in the winter.
Maybe a lesson for summer also? If you're seeing sluggish fish bigger and erratic might sometimes work better than slow and small.

The idea is not to catch the Muskies. They were drawn in by the Aqua-Vu camera in between Pike and Bass we did catch and always ignore the jigs we have down. The sucker's secondary use is to draw in big bull gills. It works.
