H2O I wasn't able to open that site, but thanks. MuskieE - I caught a 48" ski on the Menominee River and I submitted it (pic only) to the MI DNR Master Angler Award program. I didn't know if the fish was a Northern or Great Lakes, so I left that part of the application blank. From the picture I submitted they somehow decided it was a Great Lakes strain. I was just wondering how one could tell from a pic.

Ranger go to muskie411.com and look to the left side and find fish ID, that takes you to that page.

Ranger sent you some info.

Basicly it is like this:
Great Lake Strain are the "spotted" strain found mainly in the Great Lakes and connecting waters. ie. Lake Saint Clair

Northern are the "clear" or "barred" they are mainly found in inland waters. ie Chicagon
