Posts: 3508 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, 3M makes a spray on adhesive that is really solid. It's a heavy duty adhesive. Cost is just under $30 a can, but it is good stuff... Steve

Posts: 415 | A good carpet glue from one of the box stores will work just fine, just make sure it is indoor/outdoor glue, or better yet, marine grade. I bought a tub of marine grade carpet glue from Menards and it worked great.

Posts: 32935 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | 'Pretty much all adhesives at the big box stores are crap, usually specialty products are best.'; Unfortunately, not an accurate statement. Any high quality contact cement/carpet glue (same thing) designed for use out of doors will work great, and you can apply it with a brush; just follow the directions on the can. One can buy that stuff at Wal Mart, Home Depot, and Menards.

Posts: 260 Location: Almost Heaven | I did my whole Stratos and i used Weldwood original and used several paint brushes to apply throughout the process. I got my carpet from Bass Cat boat co. and i asked them what to use. This stuff is gets tacky fairly quick and no need to use clamps on edges of lids. That is the best part because trying to clamp lids and edges is a pain. My wife and i did the whole boat and worked on it a little while each day. Work with average size areas so you have time to move your carpet in place. Lowes carries the large can and i have seen the smaller cans at Wally World.

Be sure to get an outdoor type that is 100% waterproof. Easy to apply with a caulk gun tube or hand squeeze tube. Cheap with great adheasive characteristics and last forever. I use it in my 1997 Ranger all the time.

Had the same issue on mine. I used a tube of marine Goop and worked great no issue for 2 seasons.

Posts: 496 | Turkey T is correct DAP WELDWOOD CONTACT CEMENT ORIGINAL in the red and black can . here is the deal though .....put a THIN layer" no pools or puddles" on both surfaces. and allow it to dry , then put another thin layer on both surfaces and allow it to get real tacky . Put it together and you are done . A few hints , make sure it warm and not humid . I have carpet stuff to fiberglass that has lasted a long long time .

Posts: 74 Location: Brainerd, MN 56401 | The best way to attach carpet in a boat is to spray glue on both pieces (the floor and the back of the carpet). Using a brush or trowel to spread the glue is definitely not ideal but will work. Just remember that when it comes to glueing carpet in a boat, less is more.
