Location: Almost Heaven | Hey guys, Does anyone on here use or have any opinion on the 8 ft. 3/4 to 4 0z. type rods. I like to throw some baby 6" custom inlines and smaller stuff sometimes, but is there enough backbone to handle a good fish? I saw the Reaction Strike had this rod and am trying to get some opinions. I have a 6'4" rod rated in this range but hard to compare it to an 8'. Thanks much. |

Location: Detroit River | I have a 7 1/2' (MH up to 3oz) that has handled fish up to 48". Did lose 2 50"+ on it (1 I didn't have a net) but the rod still handled them no problem. |

| my favorite rod is the stcroix ltm top-n-tail it's an 8' mh and it works great for bucktails up to a #8 and the smaller rubber and topwater. It'll handle any muskie you can catch it'd be the bigger baits that would break it not the fish |

| I would recommend a 2012 8' Med/Hvy Gander Mountain Rod. They are about $89 to $99... They are light in weight and have plenty of back bone , sounds like it would be the exact rod for you. Can be used on smaller bucktails up to Regular size bulldogs with no problem. They are made very well, good warranty, and a price everyone can afford......Mike Sr. |

Location: Land of the Musky | There are both 7'6" and 8' TI rods too. Sorry I am out of the 8' MH rods but have plenty of the new 7'6" MH rods that are rated up to 6oz. Right now Musky Tackle Online is the only place that has them up. Free shipping with MTO on those rods too. |

| My favorite rod is the 8'-0" MH. Several fish on it between 45" - 49", never once felt like the rod wasn't enough for the fish. I've got 8'H and 8'6 XH rods, and while they are great for throwing heavier lures, for fighting a fish, nothing beats a MH in my opinion - much easier to keep pressure on the fish, and it removes the tendency to horse the larger fish and lose them because of it. Maybe it's just me, but I feel a lighter rod gives you more control. The only times I get a little nervous is when you get one that eats right in front of you and heads straight under the boat. |

| James at TI has some quality stuff at the lower price ranges. I always say buy the best yo can afford. Don't go broke and ruin your budget. I do have some higher end 8' custom rods in the Custom X lineup. If you are looking for the last rod you ever have to buy check out the Custom X lineup. If your buget only allows for a more managable price point then check out TI and some of the others in that cost effective range. But at least check out Custom X for the future. Good luck fishing.
