| Just really started to muskie fish. I've caught a couple of tigers in the past year, but never a pure. Not nearly as monsterous as the ones I see here, but pretty nice for my little river. That thing was jumping like a rainbow trout! I'm hooked for life now. Thanks for all of the great info here. I've learned a lot from this forum!

| This is a little river in WV close to where I live. According to the DNR website, the very biggest ones are around 43 in. in that river. I caught it from the bank. You could probably get a canoe through some parts of it but you can wade it a lot easier. It was released back into the same hole and took off like a bolt of lightning! Maybe I'll catch it again some day. Hopefully, bigger! |

| That's what I thought. You are lucky to have such a place near you. A short wade and cast excursion probably hits the spot at times you don't have time to move and launch a boat. It is also nice for the guys who don't own a boat. Skinny water skis. |

Nice fish, man. I too fish for the skinny water muskie, just here in KY. Great experience.
I use a boga grip (sp?). I use it to land them when I am wade fishing or walking the bank. Can't always drag a net through the brush. And you don't want to land one by hand every time. Trust me, I still can't pick up anything with a strap between my thumb and index finger. In June I had one slash my thumb and cut up some nerves that are not healed yet. When that fish is in the water thrashing, you are waste deep in briers, and giddy as a schoolgirl, that extra foot of gear between you and Meatgrinder Mouth is fairly comforting. |

| I use a boga too when wading a river... Don't always use it on the fish, especially if the lure I'm using is a single hook lure, but when they have a mouth full of trebles it can come in handy. You can also tie a rope to it, and that allows you to leave the fish in the water while retrieving your pliers and cutters like you would while the fish is in the net.

| I'm definitely a fan of lip grippers. I've been fishing my whole life and for me, they're a welcome addition the whole landing process. No gill grabbing or extra struggling. They seem to calm a fish down, even. I've had 15lb+ channel cats clamp down on the old thumb and roll hard enough to make you think your thumb was about to snap off! They are just easier to handle and get those hooks out of quicker. If you're gonna release a fish, I figure it will be a much more successful return to the water with less flipping and flopping out of water where gravity isn't so friendly to a fish. |
