| Looking at re-carpeting a Tuffy 1700 Deep V - a couple questions:
1) Is it better to have this done at the Tuffy factory (do they do this?) or to take to a marine/repair shop? (I don't have the time/ability myself)
2) What is approximate cost to do a total re-carpet (floors, doors, etc)?

Location: Dane Country | The factory doesn't do it. I had a guy in Middle Wi. redo my carpet. A real pain in the but. Contact Tony at Sierra Boats Ogdensburg Wi. He is very fair. |

| Labor costs should only be $150 tops IMO.
The problem is that the carpet isn't cheap.
I would do it yourself. It's not hard at all. |

Location: Dane Country | Can't tell you the cost of the recarpet. I got a package deal, new stringers,floor,casting deck etc. That why iIsaid it would be best to contact Tony. Really nice guy, Go to Sierra boats website bottom left says repairs click there. He just got done with another Tuffy pics are on his site. Call 715-498-4899 tell him Scooter sent you. |

I've carpeted a bunch of boats. 1,000's probably. Longest it EVER has taken was 2-3 hours and that was a very elaborate cruiser type boat with a single piece.... |

Location: Dane Country | Two- three hours? Wow thats fast. I'm pretty handy and have helped before and have never gotten a boat done that fast. I'll have two come up and watch sometime if you don't mind. I've only redone two boats. The first one was a 1983 Ranger 350 Bass boat and the second was my Tuffy. Keeping it all 1 piece around the bow and the front deck was time consuming. |

| Yep. Granted that was with a carpet glue sprayer (air pressurized 10 gal tank) and rough patterns. Thing is rough patterns only take a little bit of time. So maybe add another 30 minutes tops to the job.

Location: Plainfield IL | You can do this yourself. Its just a dirty job, but perfect for the winter. Go to bassboatcentral.com and look under their restoration section. Tons of how to's. This is my winter project come January for my rig.

| And a tiller boat without all the hatches, and TWO decks will be a BUNCH easier than a bass boat.

| I keep getting quotes back that remark things like "did one of these boats before" and "very labor intensive boat to carpet, as nearly everything must be taken apart, lids stripped and individually carpeted, glue, staple, and rivet removal, etc."
Quotes are coming in $2000-3000 from 3 places. Ouch ~ |

| Realistically $2k is not out of line-Based on 20oz carpent pricing, adhesive remover, glue and other misc supplies will run you an easy $500. Figure in what I would estimate to be 2-8 hour days(minimum) to remove, prep and replace at a shop rate of $80/hour it doesnt take long to in the $2k range.
That said if you are anyway handy-like every one else said-it is not hard to do, it just takes time and paitence. |

Location: Dane Country | I personally didn't think the Ranger (Bass) I had or this Tuffy were easy boats. Like someone said a tiller, flat floor no lockers probably pretty easy. Did you call Tony. Remember cash talks loud. |

Location: Elgin, IL | I spent a good part of the summer replacing my carpet in a 96 Lund Pro V 1890 LE.
Total hours spent was right around 40, give or take a few, and that would include removal of the bad stuff.
I have installed carpet for 37 years, and my experience paid off. I had fun, and learned alot about the boat. The job went very well, but I wouldn't recommend it to a first timer if the boat has alot of detail.
I will include a picture of my back deck area, including the hatches, and now that I've done this one, I would think that $2000. plus materials is on target. A local marina saw my work and would like me to bid some projects for him in the future. It's alot of time....we will see. Good Luck with your project.
