Random quote: Tough crowd, muskie fishermen. Especially late at night. Seems that a toddy or two detaches reason from the average angler.

5 doubles on Saturday, and two teams were done before 9 after starting at 7. Those two teams were right next to our boat when it happened and gave us some hope for the bite. Roughly 30 fish caught out of 101 teams yesterday. I left after fishing was done today, but it sounded like it was a tougher bite today. We got our butts kicked...in more ways than one. Lost one deep that we never saw and zero other action. Several teams had fish going and some did well in what I thought were tough conditions. Several others never saw a fish. You earned 'em casting the first couple of hours each morning in those conditions. I'm sure someone will have an update with the winners and final standings. Congrats to whoever they are!

I believe there were 35 fish on sat, 5 doubles, 10 fish on Sunday, 2 doubles. Heard nobody tripled, so it should have been a close race. Only one short fish for us.

FYI - Used under-armor athletic gloves and thin uninsulated wool finger-less gloves with a hot hands pak placed on the back of my hand between the gloves. They are not water proof by any means, but kept my hands warm enough that I didn't have to take any time out to warm them up and still had very good grip and feel.

I bet a local guy drinks on Friday afternoon that the steepness of the cold front would keep Saturday's catch under 12 fish. He predicted 15. When I scraped an inch of snow off the deck Saturday morning, (at about 20 degrees F) I told my partner that I was downsizing my prediction to 7 or 8. The field then caught 38 fish (with 10 more Sunday morning) and I was forced, once again, to learn that you just can't predict what musky will do, or underestimate the fish factory that is the Eagle Chain. I also eluded the guy I bet with Saturday night and kept my cash!

Friday was 54/55, hard to find anything warmer than 55.6... Then on Saturday as the winds were blowing and folks were waking up to 20 degree standing temps, we launched to water temps around 48 and never saw it warmer than 51 by mid-day. The sun would shine for 10 minutes followed by wave after wave of snow that at times would nearly white out the lakes and leave the floor of our boats with a white dusting, only to thaw off come the next several minutes of sun. Sunday was completely different. Sunday was high pressure with sun, yet the winds kicked up later in the morning and by noon she was kicking and cold. Water temps on Sunday were the same as they were on Saturday - 48 in the early a.m. to 51 in the early afternoon. It was bitter casting conditions, especially on Sat...

We had fun. Picked up one on Friday while pre-fishing and another one on Saturday, which warmed us up a bit.

I heard rumor today that you didnt even have to qualify or fish an event to fish the championship as some guys were just called up and invited to fish it. Anyword on that Sam?

That was the case as I believe there were only 93 teams that qualified. I don't know how they picked who got an invitation versus who didn't, though, but my best guess is that it was probably based off the number of events teams who didn't catch a fish this year fished - again, just a guess. First place was $50k, too, not $100k.. I'm sure the WMTS will cover that in their press release.
