| Howdy All,
According to the receipt I received for my deposit, the lodge wants to know our meal plans. Our meal planning project went well at the Cass Lake Outing and I think we should do her again. This Canada trip will require careful planning, though, due to the fact that we'll need to transport all food by boat, and it's obviously not so easy to run to town for last minute purchases.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. First, we'll need to make sure folks want to participate. So the first question to answer is, "Who wants to participate in a meal planning effort?" Consider this brief proposal before answering....
The goal is two-fold: to save lots of money while we eat like kings. How? Teams (of a couple people each) plan, purchase, prepare, serve and clean up after a single major meal. Meals are served mid-day, like at 1:00. Folks are on thier own for breakfast and dinner, though the evening meeting can include things like: that day's leftovers; fresh pike/fish from Worrall and others; excellent cornbread from the hillbillies; those WI guys always bring huge blocks of good cheese; I'll do Sponge Bob Spicy Wings again; and hopefully Shep will get another deer for summer sausages (non-decorative, Iowa Jon!) all around.
At Cass the main entrees included a cut-to-order ribeye steak feast by Al; a "shhhh...both my hams are cooking" extravaganza; a grilled salmon Treat(s); and Ranger Rick's Triple Kick Ass Spahgetti. All meals were delux, with all the trimmins.
We don't need to get the details figured out for a long time, but I guess we do need to respond to the lodge's request for info on our general plans. So, do we have interested people? Waddya say? |

| Ranger:
If you decide to do steaks, chops, etc. Dalseg's Market in Nestor Falls has really good meat. They can get just about any cut you want. We did a dinner auction for the Nestor Falls Church this summer and the meat was wonderful. You don't need to go to I. Falls to find good meat. You also might want to put out a tip sheet for those first timers to Canada; what to expect at the border, use charge cards (best exchange rate), restaurants, shopping, bait, etc. If you need help, give me a holler. I'm sure the camp can provide some info also.

| Ranger,
I can do whatever you need. I would be more than willing to team up with a few guys and put on some serious grub for our fellow musky nuts.
I can bring some steaks, chops, or whatever.
One question, who provides the plates, silverware, cups, etc.???
I think this is going to be an awesome trip. I've been wanting to get back to LOTW sooner than later. |

| Personally, barring ugly nasty weather, I plan on packing a lunch and just GOING til dinner time. But thats me.
But then again, I am a bowl of cereal pot of coffee, catch an early early morning bite then back in at 9:30AM for real breakfast kind of guy too. Call me kooky.

| First of all, Mauser and I have discussed this and we're both IN for the Ranger Meal Plan (RMP). The Gambler may look like Haitian refugees moving across LOTW, but we'll load up luggage, coolers, boxes of food, whatever is needed to sustain us for the week.
As I understand, some of the cabins are "housekeeping" where pots, pans, plates, silverware are provided.
Slamr - the way we worked it at Cass, which seemed to work well, folks came in around 1-2 pm for the Big Meal, to rest up a bit, feed, and exchange stories, details, fish locations, etc., then back out from 3-dusk. You might consider this unless you are half way to Vancouver by then.
See y'all! m[] |

| Guys....we have a long time..hehehehehehhe[] |

|
| Jason, I know we have a long time, but I want to respond to the lodge. Sounds like at least a few guys are interested, so could you please post a quick summary of the option on the initial announcement and sign-up page?
Also, I think I'm getting into this way early because I'm already frustrated by not being able to get out to fish. Part of my winter season survival strategy, dontchknow.
Thanks! |

| Guys,
I think the lodge is only asking if you want Housekeeping, or American Plan. When I sent my deposit, I specified Housekeeping, so I was not asked. If you are interested in doing the American Plan for the week, they will need to know this. They will also make the full menu available with previous day's notice. Breakfast, and burgers will not need the previous day's notice.
The Lodge is also putting on a Pig Roast, scheduled for Wednesday night, I believe. They also suggested a Fish Fryday, although I don't know if we need to supply the walleye's. Perhaps the WalleyeFirst guys can handle that, if any sign up![;)]
As the time gets close, I will post a bunch of info on my 12 years of Canadian experience. Border crossing(what not to do, say, bring, etc.), Duties, suggested supplies, location of stores, where to gas up, where to get a great breakfast the morning of arrival, etc.
Also, please let the Lodge and Jason know if you're bringing a boat. This is important, as they will have to pull out some of the rentals to make room for our boats. |

| Hiya Shep,
Good points. I think you are right about what the lodge wants to know so maybe I'm really jumping the gun. Also, we'll certainly need your advice on crossing the border so post that when you feel ready. I bet others have good tips, too.

| Guys, a suggestion: Consider taking the time mid day to jig some reefs for Walleyes and Perch. We've done that a couple of years now on our trip in the angle and it is worth it. If you spend just an hour a day you should catch more than enough for your meal(s) and your family will love you for bringing something back for them. Make sure you don't bring too much back!
The first time we did this, I thought "this is a damn muskie trip what the hell am I doing?". In reality, it was a blast because all of us in our group got together to fish the same reef. It was fun because we got some time to just float around and b.s. instead of just passing each other on the way to the next spot. Camaraderie. The fish fry in camp those evenings were top notch. A bunch of 12" Perch with Walleyes thrown in were outstanding.
Good luck to all up there.

| Jono,
Great point. I will definately have to do some eye fishing. My wife doesn't have the muskie bug, so I will be spending time with her jiggin and riggin eyes midday. We've had some great succes with the weed bite up there in July. Not sure about late August, but I'm sure we can figure it out. Specially if we get some of the WFer's to come along.
That would be cool, trade some Muskie time with them for some eye time! |
