Location: Madison, WI | My favorite Luna is making a screaming sound on almost every cast to start the day. After a while of casting it seems to just go away. Other than the noise, the reel is not acting any different but it is sometimes very loud. Is this bearings, or what can i do to fix this cuz i love this reel? |

Location: NorthCentral WI | I've had the same symptoms from dirt in the levelwind too. Take it apart and clean it. More often than not, reels just get dirty. |

Location: Smith Creek | Unscrew the cap opposite handle, like Pikemaster said, 2 drops of oil on the bearing in the center of the cap, then 1 drop on the center of the idle gear, that big white gear inside the cap. |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | No offense to the others but the oil won’t cure it. At least it didn’t with mine. I had sent it in to Daiwa and they said the bearing was rusted! Less than a year later and I had the same issue again and elected not to send it in. I lubed the heck out of the bearing and it still screams like a banshee.
I hope the oil fixes it for you, but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t. Also If you send it in to Daiwa don’t be surprised if you have to pay for the repair as mine wasn’t even though the reel was still under warranty. Thus why I didn’t send it in a second time.

| mine does the same thing. it's not a lube issue. it's because something is broke because the reel cannot handle heavy baits. i send my back to Diawa, they could not fix it. so, i still have a luna that screams sitting in my musky room for two years now. |

Yes that makes sense J, but I oiled mine frequently enough. After getting fixed the first time I oiled it much more knowing of the issue I could have with the reel again, but that didn't help.
Like I said I hope it helps the author of this thread. Don't take my posts as bashing. Just relaying my experience with the reel. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | To replace the spool bearings for a Luna 300 it is $15.00 for ABEC 5 S.STEEL BEARINGS and I can install grease in them and then they will stay lubed for a good year of casting. PM me for more details, I do alot of Luna reels that way. |

| Part of the problem with spool bearings is that people are putting grease ON them instead of IN them. So whatever water gets inside from a day in the rain basically stays there. It's like trailer bearings or wheel bearings in a car - you really have to push the old grease/dirt/water out and get the new grease in, and do it more than once a year.

I do a lot of Lunas too and have encountered a few that needed a new idle gear to take the squeel away. Like maybe 1 out of 20. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | If a Bearing is rusted it is no good, but if it is not I take off one of the shields on the bearing and soak them in Acetone in a Ultra Sonic Cleaner for 30mins and then in clean Acetone for another 15 mins, take the Clean bearing out and spin test it, if the bearing does not spin free or if it makes noise, I will replace it. I take the clean bearing and apply TSI301 it is a Polar Bonding Anti Corrosive Dry lube, after it dries I use a Bearing Backer to install the grease in the bearing and I use a Anti Corrosion Grease that will not wash out like alot of other greases do, so that bearing will not rust and will stay lubed for over a year of hard casting. |

Location: Denmark | Check the coq wheel that drives rhe levelwind, mostly this part is response for screaming like noises. One drop of oil will do in most cases. |

Location: Norway | I agree with Killerbug. Whenever my reels scream, its the cog wheel. As they say in mythbusters; when i doubt, lube.
