| I'm thinking about getting one of these, just wondering what motor you guys put on yours. I was thinking a 90hp merc four stroke...whadda you guys think?
Also, is there really enough storage in one of these or is the 1750 a better choice? I noticed the 1650 had longer rod lockers 7'6" were the 1750 only had a 7'locker. I figure they both have the 55" livewell and not much differance in bow size. I picked the 1650 because I can afford to max out the power plant on it and don't know if the 90hp is enough for the 1750?
A little feedback would be appreciated

| Thor, I have owned a 1650 FH in the past, before I upgraded to the 1850 FH. The motor I had on my 1650 was a 75 Merc, at that time a 90 would have been approx. $800 more and would have only gained a few MPH. I thought the 75 was sufficient, in a naked boat I could hit 42 (on Lorwance speed/temp gauge, not gps. The only thing I didnt like about the 75 was it's starting ability, I think you will like the newer technology motors to be much nicer at starting.
A friend of mine has an 80 4-stroke (yam or Honda, can't remember) on his 1750 FH tiller and he gets low-mid 30's with it.
I can't comment at this time about the rod lockers being different on the 1750 vs the 1650, but I do know that my 7'6" and 8' ST.Croix's With Normark balancers fit nicely into the 2 Fishhawks that I have owned in the past.
Feel free to give me a call or e-mail if you have more questions.

| I have a 1750 with a 90 Honda on it. I can generally get to 40 mph with all my gear. When fishing with a buddy and all his gear around 36-37MPH.
I have no problems fitting my 7'7" rods in the rod locker, so that should not be an issue for your.
If you can swing it, I would go with the 1750 and the 90.

| I don't think you can go wrong with the 1650 and maxing out the HP. I've got a 1650 with a 80 hp Yamaha and have no complaints. The livewell is 50" I believe, not 55". I also think it's the same in the 1750.

| I just measured rod holder and livewell a week ago. The 1650 could hold a 8' rod easy, and the livewell is 50". Its a awsome boat and I am having a tuff time making up my mind on the 1650 or 1750. Cant wait til spring!!
See ya on the water,

| My dad has a 1650 Fishawk with a 90 Honda. It is a nice rig to fish from but handles the waves like crap. With the big Honda on the back and the width to length ratio... it just plain does not handle large waves or boat wakes very well.... especially when you are trimmed up trying to get some speed. Because of the mile wide transom you can keep this boat up on plane at insanely slow speeds, but considering the safety issue at higher speed I'd strongly recommend going to the 1750 if you can. That little bit more in length really seems to make a difference in the way it cuts through the waves. Also, not maxing out the horsepower on these boats shouldn't be an issue since they plane off so easilily due to the wide transom.

| I have a 1750 with a 90 Johnson and with all my stuff (which is to much) 43 mph, with 2 people 38 mph. Rod locker holds my 7 1/2ft rod fine. When pulling live bait (skiers)2 up more HP would be better one skier it is OK. 1750 Handles waves better and more stable when walking around. IMHO

| I have the 1650SC with 80 Yamaha 4-stroke. Handles my 8 foot rod no problem in the rod locker. Not sure about the livewell, but honestly, the chance of ever needing to put a 55" in, I will take my chances with a 50" livewell.
JLong is correct about the waves. It is a perfect boat for the calm days, but I do take a beating on windy days.
All in all, for me to get the 1750 with a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke would've only been $1500 more. I wish I could've done it, but it wouldn't fit in my garage. |
