Gonna be fishing a smaller Deep V as a multi purpose boat. Primary motor is a 40hp Merc 4 stroke. I have a '97 2stroke 4hp tiller I use on my jon boat. Would it be worth adding a kicker plate on the boat and hauling that tiller or just stick with the main?

If you are trolling for muskies, just stick with the 4 stroke. That 4 HP 2 stroke will need to wind up pretty tight to get you to speed. Lots of noise and smoke, plus a sepoarate fuel tank tells me this is not a good deal.

Yep. Musky trolling with the 40HP 4 stroke, and if you want to troll for walleye add a big electric motor to the back.

I troll for muskie and walleye with my 50hp 4stk Yamaha. Alumacraft 165 CS. Purrs like a kitten. Trolls down to 1.5 mph. Why would you want to yell over that 2 smoke?

I haven't really done much trolling before and am just now getting into it is why I asked. Also I honestly didn't even think of the 2 types of fuel i'd need. I'm used to 2 strokes only so that was my train of thought. Thanks for the input, I think I will trash that idea.

Other than as a safety measure on a huge lake where you will be 10 to 50 miles away from the dock, there is no purpose in having a kicker on a small boat with a motor that can troll down. Put an electric stern mount on first for slower trolling if you need it. To be functional you'd need a 6 to 9.9 to troll muskies I'd bet. Ran a 4 on one of my boats with a 20" transom once in an emergency but it wasn't worth the effort to put it on, as it was a short shafted 4 and did an excellent job as an eggbeater foaming the water to a deliscoius froth.
