Anyone try any new models in 2002, if so what did you find out?

I tried a couple of lures for the better part of my fishing time: slammer 6" deep diver, slammer 6" shad diver, slammer 5" + 7" regular model, bucher baby depthraider and straight model shallowraider, JP-6 crankbaits and legend 6" husky crankbaits.

The slammers all got struck by pike but I failed to land one. I lost a lot of pike this year. I'm up to 81 'hooked and lost' now.

The legend prooved to be a really hot crankbait! Its drunken, unpredictable action is really hot for pike! The redhead pattern has more white than red by now! But due to its wide head I lost (poorly hooked I guess) a lot of pike. The red part of the pattern is so chewed it even has 3mm deep cuts in it from pike. Runs to about 1.5m deep on a cast when you attach it to the lower eye.

The baby depthraider was a really good lure for casting (fished like a suick, with long strokes) to deeper underwater structures and for trolling 10 feet behind the boat in shallow water. Dito for the straight model shallowraider.

The JP-6 accounted for my biggest pike this year and I found it is a good trolling lure, less good for casting.

This is the first year I've used Slammers Deep Divers and I really like them, I plan on lot's of trolling next season with a larger arsenal of them. Thanks for the great product Bill!

Tried a few different baits that are new to me this year.

I really liked the 7-1/2 Grandma. It twitches very nice with a good amount of flash. I've heard the bill's were suspect, but I haven't had a problem. I guess millfoil doesn't have the same punch a rock does[:p] .

I tried the slammer twitch baits and deep divers this year also. I thought the deep divers blew-out too easily for me to troll w/ my 200hp. The pike wouldn't leave the twitch baits alone so they eventually found their way out of my box.

Treats,

Try adjusting the eye right to left. Sometimes they are just a hair off.[;)]

I love the custom color slammers. Great for trolling and casting.

The 7 1/2" grandmas work great too, so do the 6" deep divers.

The squirley ernie really looks great in the water too.

I love the action of the lip ripper, I hope to see them in a larger size.

My zalts are extreme fun to say the least.

My brother and fishing buddy have been rubbing off on me and I've been tossing crankbaits alot more than typically. Some of the "gooders" has been the DepthRaider in the straight model. I also have been good success with Jakes this past year also.

I've also tried out a crankbait called "Talon" crankbait by Kingfisher and really like how this bait twitches. It has nice flash and dives deeper than a Crane which is a huge asset when fish are holding deeper and have smaller strike zones. I've only tried it out for a limited time due to the cooler than normal fall. But I will assure you that this bait will put some nice fish in the boat next spring and early summer.

Well number one uno is a bait that you can find in the thread "jlong spill the beans". I've caught and raised fish on this bait on some lakes that have been pretty tough to crack for some reason this year(you ever have that happen? Some years lakes just seem to get in their funks and it's specific presentation). It has a kick out that's unlike any bait I've used and hangs pretty nice. Plus, I could cast it all day without getting the Krap kicked out of me from "working the cranks. I've only been able to test this bait out for a short period of time, but from what I've seen it's been good.

catch ya later,
Krappie
