I've found a nice calcutta 251 for a good price but it's used. The cardiff is new and backed up with a warranty. I've been having trouble finding a used revo toro winch lefty so I've been looking into some cheaper reels and can't decide between the two. I've already done some research but would like more input. Which one is more durable? Can withstand almost everyday use? And which one is more smoother, better casting and so on.

These are both nice reels, One major difference is the Line Capacity.........The cardiff has a larger spool thus holds more line than the 251 Calcutta. I am not sure but I do not think the 251 has a line out clicker either. For making short casts and stuff the 251 would be the better choice with a better drag system. (but it is really a bass sized reel) There are a few Abu Revo 61's out there but the used ones are selling for more than new. I myself have two for sale, but I have no intentions of giving them away. You mentioned to me that you were looking to spend about $150 for a New Revo Toro......... I myself want to win the Powerball lottery this month....... I think the Odds are against the both of us.....

I had a Cardiff that lasted all of 2 trips. Mayb a freak defect but not impressed. Save your money and get a cutta 400!

The Calcutta 251 is a little more durable than the Toro, but has less drag to offer. Be sure to get a 400 Calcutta/Cardiff, if you are planning to use it on heavier rods/baits. The drag are the achilles heel of the smaller Shimano 100-300 round baitcasters, because they only have two washers compared to 4 of the 400's. Alternatively, you could buy a Okuma Akena 250, it's pretty small and neat looking reel, but has a drag, comparable to that of the 400's.

The Revo Toros all have the same excellent carbon matrix drag. Carbon matrix is weaved carbon fiber, this material is also used in Okuma Akena, and Shimanos next generation of round baitcasters, the Calcutta D's.

I think you will be better off with a Revo Toro, or a Calcutta/Cardiff 400, Daiwa Luna 300, or even the ABU Inshore Classic.
