Posts: 201 | I have 3 rods. A 9 ft TI XXH 3-12 OZ An 8'6 Fenwick Elite Tech Big Bait 4-12 OZ An Old School Tackle 8 ft 1.25-7oz and 3 reels 1 Revo Toro Winch 4.6:1 1 Revo Toro 60 HS 6.4:1 And a Bass Pro Musky Angler I am heading to Vermillion in the fall and need to be able to throw big baits like pounders, which I have never done before. How would you guys pair these up and can the TI or Fenwick handle the Pounders or should I get a different rod for them? My thought is to put the winch and TI together for the big rubber and double 10s. The fenwick with the Revo 60 for regualr bucktails and 10' Suicks. And use the Lighter rod and Bass Pro reel for topwaters and smaller baits. Thanks in advance guys.

Ebenezer - 8/8/2012 2:48 PM I would put your fastest reel on the Pounder setup. Definitely. A high gear ratio reel will allow you to pick up slack quickly between rips/pulls and typically results in more fish hitting the net.

Posts: 201 | Sorry but I will never get a St. Croix again. Too many issues in the past. It's a 4 day trip and I plan on throwing 10' weighted Suicks, Pounders, mag dawgs, and monster tubes.

Posts: 323 | smbrickner - 8/8/2012 3:05 PM cool. Now I just need a pounder rod. Unless you think the Fenwick can handle them? no way can that Fenwick handle pounders.. doesn't throw big baits worth a crap witch is funny because it's called the big bait rod.. i bought the same rod and a Mike Hulbert 9' heavy at the same time and the Fenwick was a waste of money.. the Hulbert rod is 10 times the rod as a Fenwick for way less money.. Fenwick is just sitting in the corner waited to be sold..

Posts: 201 | I like it for Double 10s and Mag Dawgs. Just never thrown a pounder. But Almost all my rods are Fenwicks so that may be why.

Posts: 323 | don't get me wrong you could throw big baits with the Fenwick but there is a big difference between the weight you feel on the end of the rod.. 10's feel pretty heavy on the end of my Fenwick but throws them alright.. you put 10's on the Hulbert and it fells like you have a #3 meps on.. way less fatigue.. your T.I. rod i would guess throws them alot better also.. i have a 9' MH T.I. rod that the tip broke so i lost 3" of the rod and it throws bigger baits better then the Fenwick..

Posts: 201 | Guess I will just have to compare and see. I just want a rod that will throw them without breaking.

Can't remember the action for the big bait but it loads more like a moderate action, almost like a glass rod.
