Location: Eastern Ontario | I have a 60Hp Suzuki 4 stroke on a 17 foot tin bass boat. curently have a 13X19 3 blade alunimum prop 4600 rpm WOT 32 mph gps light load (rpm should be 4700 to 5300) I would like to bring rpm up 3 or 4 hundred and improve take off without sacrificing too much speed should I try 13.25X17 or 14X17? What should be my result? Thanks

Posts: 3508 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, The best bet here for your options listed would be the 13.25 x 17 as you are only increasing diameter by 1/4" (-100 rpms)and reducing pitch by 2 inches (+250 - 400 rpms) which would be an overall gain of about 300 rpms. If I were to make a suggestion, I would recommend going to a 15 pitch to get your rpms under light load right at 5300. That way when you load down, you will be right in the middle of the rpm range from 4700 up to 5300. You will lose speed no matter what prop you go to in your situation, but your hole shot will be rock solid. In most cases, the power at the low end is a much better feature to have as you are able to get your boat out of the water on and plane quicker and if you are in larger waves, it gives you the power to maneuver better. Location: Eastern Ontario | Thanks Steve What dia 15 would you suggest. I think the guy at the local prop shop would let me try a 15 and exchange for a 17 if it over revs

Posts: 3508 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, I would say stick to a 13-1/4" diamter. I suppose the next question I have is this...aluminum or steel? My gut says you are looking at aluminum. Steve

Posts: 3508 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, Benefits are slim to none, other than durability as there are not a vast array of different designed props. If you can find a ballistic propeller in that size, though, it might be worth a try...not sure how easy those are to find anymore... Steve
