Location: Roseau | I have a 1992 Merc 150 on a 19' alum boat and a 15 hp kicker. So far i am averaging around 2 - 2.5 miles per gallon. Does that sound about right? It runs great just want to make sure that is normal? I dont run hard and that is what I get mainly cruising from spot to spot - 3 to 6 miles runs.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Yep, that's sounds about normal. It all depends on where you run that throttle. You'll get your optimum fuel economy from 3800-4400 rpm. |

Location: MN | TJ, does that hold true even if you need to go faster to achieve that rpm range? Maybe in keeping speed down to be a little stingier on gas i'm actually using more? (we go through enough as it is) |

Running 3800-4400 is just a general consensus, it can vary for every rig/setup. Same goes for a vehicle, running at 55 mph will always get you better mileage than running 70.
Everything depends on your rig, if you have a boat that is setup with with 3/4 or less of the max hp rating, you'll need to run that throttle more where as with a boat that is maxed out with hp, it'll take less throttle to do the same thing as that boat that is under max hp. Make sense? |

Man the gas bill sure adds up fast!
In general, what could I expect out of a 115 4 stroke?
The boat is very light and a 115 would be enough power.

What boat do you have? A 19ft boat with a 115 I would imagine is severely under powered.
Again, matching the boat with at least 3/4 or more of the max hp rating is highly suggested. Just because you'd go to a newer motor but less hp that doesn't mean it'll perform better, could actually do worse since the motor your interested in is a 4-stroke with considerable less hp and overall power. |

Location: Iowa | My 690vs with 150 merc, gets between 2.5 and 3 so far. I'm still experimenting with props, so I'm in it pretty good. I think it will be a tad better when I stop messing with things, but still won't be good. |

Location: one foot over the line | I'm not familiar with the spectrum, however, I have a Z-7 (18'8") that wieghs in around 1600#, I have a 175 opti and cruising at 3300 rpm I'm getting around 7 miles to the gallon. What is the max hp rating for your boat? I'm a firm believer in maxing them out, you'll never say, "I wish I had a smaller one" |
