| I picked up a like new Maxxum Trolling Motor in 74 thrust to replace my 40 Pound Powerdrive that just didn't get the job done in the wind. With my Powerdrive if I pointed the motor in one direction it would stay in that direction, with the Maxxum the moment I take my foot off the cable control thing it starts spinning and going everywhere. It will probably take a few times out on the water to get it figured out, but is this normal? not having it stay in the same place? |

Location: Madison, WI | That is the sole reason i dont use cable drive trolling motors. unless its dead calm you have to keep your foot on the pedal almost all the time or they will spin, especially bobbing up and down in the wind! |

| just tighten down the pedal tension set screw and it will make the unit spin less freely. |

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | Nature of the beast, best you can do is tighten the tension like mentioned but never stray far from the foot pedle or it becomes it's own monster....Happiest day in my fishing lifetime was selling my Maxxum for a Terrova..... |

| I tightened it down all the way and it seems more manageable .. Ill give it a water test tomorrow |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | Maxxum's are very tough to use....I absolutely can't stand them and have no idea how anyone likes them...If you have the cash this off season sell it and see if you can get a Terrova, there is no comparison |

Location: Storm Lake, IA | If you spend the time with the foot pedal it will become part of your foot. Big benefits if you can master it. Take a look at frank Walsh and dick pearsons trolling motors and they are cable drives. They fish complex spots that are littered with rocks all day. Plus take a look at all the bass pros and even the walleye guys |

| i love mine. powerful and indestructable and as stated, becomes part of your foot to where you don't have to look at it to know where it's pointed. |

Location: Roseau | Best motor out there for fishing rocky structure, LOTW, especially in the wind. Instant response and never have to look at the motor to know which way you will be going, your foot will know. Plus the power on, off while turning and moving is very easy. Just used a power drive with a foot pedal and was horrible to run in the wind and waves around structure. |
