| A couple weeks back I ventured up into johnnysled's area and did some night fishing. We eased into a secluded bay and were greeted with the northern lights, owls hooting, whipper wills, frogs croaking and it appeared that the muskie gods were shining down on us. 10 minutes into the drift we hear a loud splash/slap on the water, about 2 cast lengths away from us. At first we thought it was someone on shore but about 5 minutes later we hear it again and this time it is closer. At this point both of us in the boat immediately stop fishing and try to see what was making the noise. I suppose we could have turned the spot light on but we were both afraid we would spook whatever it was. 5 more minutes goes by and I notice movement on the water about 50 yards behind the boat and that is when we realized that it was a very large beaver slapping his tail on the water, I'm assuming trying to scare us away from it's home. This was the only bay on the entire lake that we did not either move a muskie or catch a bass. My question is, should we have even continued fishing in the secluded bay with a beaver in the area? Does a beaver effect the chances of connecting with a muskie? Just a noob trying to gain some knowledge.  | |||

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | it was a phriggin hoot!! the beaver bait has been in retirement since ... caught a pelican once too, but they just bite the bait in their wing and come in like an inner-tube. re-coined the "sh_ _ like a goose phrase that afternoon" ... | With "Sled" being the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the "There's no fish left in this chain" association, did it occur to you that it might have been him slapping against the water to scare you off. What he had been slapping to create such a big commotion is, naturally, a subject that will likely never get by the censors. | |||
