Hello all. I am leaving for Leech Lake on July 21 and will be there for a week. I am planning to focus my efforts around Pelican Island and Bear Island, and will hit Portage Bay. Any lure suggestions and colors would be appreciated. I'm not looking for specifics, just wondering if the spots I mentioned seem like solid places to start. Thanks to anyone who lends a suggestion!

What's the temps on Leech? I'll be heading up in early August. Hope we get some cooler weather by then.

I'm headin up for 2 weeks in early August and stayin till mid month. Hopefully the heat will have broke by then and the water temps will have come down. I'm at Bear as well and usually focus my August efforts on the North Bar and West Bar. Red Rocks has been active this year but ya gotta take your turn there as its small. Also trolling for walleyes and using slip bobbers. Usually by the end of the 1st week of August the perch have gone into the reeds and the muskies follow- but last year that didn't happen till end of the month/early September. Hard to figure what will happen this year.

Went to Leech the last few days. Fished 2. Had around a 35" hit my reef hawg in Grand View Flats area. That was it for me and my dad that day. The next day cooled down by about 25 degrees. Landed my first ever muskie on a loud topwater (super topraider) ,40" 20lbs. That was on the north bar by pelican island. A little north of there we found a hump under the water and a 50" class monster hit my dads jerk bait on the surface making a huge circle splash giving us a view on his size. About a half hour later he got a another hit under the water but the fish pulled off. This was fishing for about 5 hours each day for one of our first attempts on muskies. I don't usually reveal my outdoors info like this, but muskie fishing is hard enough and I just feel like being nice haha.

EsoxPredator48, now you know why this crazy game gets under the skin. I quit fishing Muskies for over 10 years, but never lost the itch. Once I hooked the next one that was it again. It sounds like you and your Father had good action. Every time you get to see, hear or feel a big girl...it's magic time.....
