| Hey all,
Just a reminder that it can happen to anyone. Keep your heads up and be careful out there.
My buddy was out bowhunting, luckily with someone, last Tuesday. He has been hunting for 20+ years and religiously wears a safety harness when he hunts. This time he was resetting a stand and hadn't put it on yet. Somehow, he doesn't remember how, he fell. Fell about 20 feet. The guy he was hunting with heard him fall and came running. Found my buddy standing but completely out of it. They got him back to the truck and eventually were able to get an ambulance there. After a trip to one hospital and transfer to another, they found 3 broken ribs, a broken collar bone, a punctured and partially collapsed lung, a bruised lung and stomach and a broken vertebrae in his back. He has said that he is lucky to be here. In fact he does remember telling his hunting buddy that he didn't think he was gonna make it to the hospital.
He has a wife and a 7 month old boy and just started a new business (a workaholic). He did say that this accident has put things into perpective.
Not one to preach about doing things a certain way, just asking that everyone be careful out there. It CAN happen to you. |

| Absolutely. Ask Ranger, his story of what happened to him while fishing is nearly as bad as what happened to your friend. Too many times we behave as if we are 'bulletproof'. Bad idea...
Be careful on the water or in the field, everyone.[] |

| Yikes! I would say I got off light compared to that dude. But you're right, Steve, that you gotta pay attention. Our guardian angles aren't always around to watch over us.[:halo:] |

| Every year I see many hunters in the emergency department that had completely preventable accidents. This past week I saw a bowhunter that had a C-7 neck fracture from not having a harness and falling 20ft. He will have to wear a Halo for a few months and have surgery to fuse his neck. Have a safe season everyone.
