Posts: 43 | What are the water temps around Minocqua right now. Thinking about coming up Saturday and don't want to waste my time if they are to warm. Thinking of Lake Tomahawk,Squirrel, or Big Arb. Thanks

Location: Lake Tomahawk, WI | I was on a good sized lake fishing smallmouth on Sunday evening and had 82-84 degree water temps, and with it hitting close to 90 each day I doubt they've come down. Haven't been out since, except for a few times swimming and it's like bathwater. Be advised, definitely at that point when it might be a good idea to leave the muskie rods at home. JS

Posts: 1220 | I'm coming up North this weekend too and the temps are clearly predicted to be on the downslope. But if you are right and the water temps are over 80 when I get there, I am also bringing a swimming suit and a cooler full of Modelo. If you think I look good in everyday St Croix/Ranger/Mercury fishing duds, the sight of me in a swimsuit is a beauty to behold. And, if the ladies don't like what they see in the swimsuit......well, maybe they'll be thirsty for what's in the cooler.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Stacks Bay and greater Minocqua Lake: 77 at 6 AM, 81 when we left at 10:30. The bass and pannies were going ok. Temps at night are going to plummet back into reality over the weekend, so all will be well by Saturday morning on most lakes up this way. Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | It's in the 50's outside this morning. Back up to Minocqua to catch some bass and panfish; muskies should be back on the target list after temps drop today through tomorrow.

Posts: 8782 | NW Vilas lakes are all pretty much hovering around the 80 degree mark. Thursday's rain and a few cool nights should help some, but we really need some cool weather and 50's at night. Never seen weeds dying off this early.

Posts: 1220 | I had 80 on the Minocqua chain at 11:00 AM yesterday, 77 earlier in the day on the Fence/Crawling Stone chain, 82 the night before on Three Lakes, 83 on Eagle Chain Friday night and 77 on North Twin Friday morning. I was all over the place, mostly just settled in for bass fishing.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | 79 in the channel between minocqua and kawaga ... 75 just off the basin in 24' of water ... darker water (three lakes, eagle, sugar-camp) ... makes perfect sense they are much higher. night fishing the chain this week is a no-brainer. it's typical summer weather right now with drier air and cool nights. go fishing ...

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | I am finding out my temps for whatever reason are reading warmer than most, but in-line with some others. I therefore didn’t musky fish much, and spent most of my time swimming, chasing ‘eyes, and other cabin activities. Twin Wed morn was 79 at 4:45 am in the basin, and over 80 when I left at noon. Thu morn hit two different lakes and found temps similar. Big Sand was one right at 80° and above, and the other was a clear very deep trout water that also hit 80°. I chose not to target muskies again until yesterday on Big Sand to find temps at 79.5°. I did go back to the deep, clear trout water on Sat morning to walleye fish expecting to find much cooler water temps, but the cooler night and the rain didn’t do a whole lot. The little bit it did cool it down was right back to the near 80 mark in no time. Granted these temps are for lakes farther East but that shouldn't make a difference for the area in question.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | we quit on the 1st and just back at it last night. i went bass fishing to start and then water temps. and air changed my plan to stay out a little longer. by the end of the night you could feel cooler/drier air and had a sweatshirt on at 11pm.. maybe the reason the fish were absent ... air is dry, air temp. now today is 86 and it's nice out. water release and i wouldn't expect a problem, but would suggest night fishing. my biggest problem last night was that i didn't have any reason to release anything. gotta catch em first ... will be back out tonight and will be interesting to see what temps. are ... i expect mid-70's and if that's the case then we got through the tough spot without a lingering effect, at least on deep, clear water. this time of year i like being on boom for a free listen to the Hodag Country Fest without the crowds. i imagine that's still a bit warm being brown n shallower in the river.

Posts: 1220 | I was fishing that little trestle just away from the Thirsty Turtle right next to the channel where Sled said he took a temerature reading at very near the same moment. Had he looked to the right or l looked to the left...we might have met in person for the very first time. I might have even asked him back to the Turtle to allow him to share unlimited political views while he was buying the beer. Junkman's rule #1....always listen attentively to anyone buying the round...they will usually buy another from the sheer appreciation!

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | what were you looking for in that trestle? nice pile a trash in that deep hole eh?? nice fall crappie spot. another secret one close to there but you'd have to buy me a beer to get that one. hint: the waitress could deliver it while you fish. the high-temp. reading i saw was around 5pm. in the shallows of the other trestle going into kawaga. did you get pulled over by the federales?? ... i think it was trainee night i was out fishing the suspendos ... structure-related of-course. Posts: 1220 | Most folks think the combination of intense traffic, the Minocquabats skiers, boat launch and general commotion prevent fish from wanting to stay in that little corner, and I would say.."Let them keep thinking that!"
