I have a few longer rods which work great in most applications. I however feel that I am more comfortable with working WTD, glide, and twitch baits with a shorter rod. Hands and arms feel better with less fatigue and my applied action to the baits seems better. Does anyone have similiar feelings? I have to replace a 6'9" St. Croix Premiere that is exhausted. Any recommendations on new rods as a replacement in the 6'9" to 7' catagory for this application?

What is your price range? St. Croix has a couple Legend Tournament rods that match that description... the 'Classic Jerk' and the 'Downsizer'. The Classic Jerk is 6'-9", extra heavy, and the Downsizer is 7'-3" medium heavy. I agree- I personally love a shorter rod with a fast reel for working jerks/glides. It's easier for me to impart a little direction to the bait with the rod tip, and let the reel do the work for the action and speed. Plus, you keep from having loose line in your retrieve, which means you miss fewer fish (again, in my opinion).
I got a Downsizer with the split grip handle this winter and love it so far, but the blue rods aren't cheap.

Thanks. I have two 8'6" legends with split handles. Glad to hear that the Downsizer is working out. I too love the split grip and thinking Classic Jerk or Downsizer as possibilities.

i prefer longer rods so I cant really give an opinion but my buddy uses the 7'6 st croix LT XH jerk and says its his all time fav setup, im sure it would work perfectly for what you're looking for

I have the 7'6" H premier and it is perfect for glide, twitch and walk the dog baits. I am only 5'8" and it is perfect length for me. I think 7' is too short IMO.

Another vote for the St. Croix LT 7'6'' "The Jerk". It's a real DREAM to fish with alot less work than a friends 6'9''Premier I tried yet Plenty of rod to handle from a Regular Weagle to big 10'' range glidebaits!

Thanks, I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in my thinking. One foot less then my current Sling Blade is probably just the ticket. I do believe that a LT Jerk is in my future.

Im 6'3 and use a 6'1 jerkbait rod wont use one over 6'3,,, I love the tip action you get I can have a phantom bounce back and forth like a pinball bouncing off bumpers,,,longer rods offer better fighting ability but I like the fact I can trigger them in the first place,
