Posts: 80 | My wife wants to take a vacation for our 1 year anniversary. Since the weekend also lands on my birthday she said I could pick the lake and resort/cabin. I wanted to pick a lake in Wisconsin with a town nearby that she could shop in if I fish. Anyone have any favorite fishing spots the like to take their significant others too?

Posts: 225 Location: Nordeast Minneapolis | Mercer Lake in Minocqua has a couple options... Driftwood Lodge, or Mercer Lake Resort are both very nice. http://www.northwoodsvacations.net/resortsMLR.html or http://www.driftwood-lodge.com/. Driftwood has a few more amenities (like a swimming pool) while Mercer Resort is a little more family-oriented, in my opinion. The lake doesn't have a public access- only through the two resorts, so fishing pressure isn't as bad as it could be. Not a lot of big fish, but some decent ones!

Posts: 785 | I've not been to the Minocqua area but have stayed in Hayward a few times. Very hopping little town with some fun touristy stuff to kill time at and multiple nice lakes within a reasonable driving distance.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | that place that tufty is suggesting would be a gooder one. stone's throw to minocqua for shopping and on a fantastic chain with not only ginormous muskies but some of the areas best smallmouth bass fishing bar-none! access to lots of water and some good stopping spots for that romantic evening cruise with the missus ... 9 months later she'll be sportin' a papoose ... and you have a chance at a big tiger ... win/win!

Posts: 9 | Stay in a cabin at Callahan lake resort in Hayward WI. The lake its self is one of the best numbers producing lakes for muskies in the state. Problem is they are stunted and rarely get over 34 inches. Although just recently a 53'' muskie was caught out of the lake. Basically you bass fish and muskie fish at the same time.

Posts: 9 | It was caught a few weeks ago. I have yet to see the pictures but everyone around town has heard about it. It seems fishy to me cause i grew up out there and never heard of anything even close to 53''. It is impossible that a fish came up from the chippewa flowage or down from the tigercat flowage due to dams. Hard to believe but possible. Jan, the owner at callahan lake lodge, is extremly kind and has had the resort for decades. http://www.haywardlakes.com/callahanlakeresort/

So Mercer Lake Resort is owned by a 'property management company'? Is there someone there that runs the resort???
