Posts: 86 | Ok, I've read some previous posts here and have heard some good things about Goodyear Marathon tires. However, many other websites/forums/reviews rip these tires pretty bad. Also curious about the max speed rating at 65mph. Some of the same websites speak highly of the Maxxis tires. But I haven't heard much about them on boat trailers or know anyone running them. Any general thoughts, comments (good or bad) or tips for maximal performance would be appreciated. tire size : 215/75 R14 ...boat is an 18'Alumacraft on a trailmaster trailer. Thanks.

Posts: 676 Location: Twin Cities, MN | I picked up a couple maxxis to replace my old marathons last year, so this is my second year. So far so good, no complaints to speak of.

Posts: 719 | Funny...I am having new tires put on my trailer tomorrow. They informed me that Marathon's are still made, but not with white lettering. They are now made in China too.... I am getting ones that are clsoe to identical mileage and treadwise called SuperTrail. In Detroit they are installing 4 of them with taxes for $364. Marathon's were about $430 from the same place.

Posts: 307 | I put maxxis on last year because I was unhappy with the tread life on marathons. Unfortunately haven't had them long enough to tell you good or bad other than they are still there. When I picked mine up the guy said that maxxis was in trouble business wise and that theymay not be available on the nxt go around

Posts: 2754 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | I had Marathon's, and now have POWER KING Towmax STR's. I had went through 2 sets of Marathon's in ~ 8 years on my Skeeter. I switched based on advice from local Mobil auto service station owner & neighbor. He gets lots of trailer tire replacement business from Interstate 90/94. His son, Kelly Bire's races professionally, so I'd say he maybe knows something about tires. He also does a bit of long distance trips going to races, and fishing & hunting. I asked him what he uses on his trailers - boat -camper- horse - car hauler- utility. His answer was Power King Towmax. http://towmaxtires.com/tires/Landing.aspx?application=towmax-produc... Have fun! Al

Marathons are great radial trailer tires. There are others out there also, but I have had really good experience with GoodYear Marathons. Several important factors in successful trailering are: Proper tire inflation, proper load rating, wheel balance, and axle alignment. If any of these items are incorrect, it doesn't matter what tires you are running, you won't get good results. Over loading the boat puts quite a strain on the tires and axle. If you are getting bad wear on the tires, don't assume that the axle is aligned properly with the trailer frame from the factory. It happens. So many folks like to blame the tires...when there are really other reasons for failure. Play it safe, and check them all... one at a time.

Location: Apple Valley | I just replaced both of my Goodyear Marathon tires this morning on my trailer with Marathons again. The first set lasted 8 years. Keep them inflated and drive like a normal person and they will last. Brian

Posts: 181 Location: St.John, Indiana | First two sets were Marathon got 2 yrs out of each now have Power King Towmax had them going on 3 yrs. Agree about proper inflation and rotate them also . 65 mph seems way to slow

I think you're fine either way. I just put on a new set of Maxxis this weekend after a great seven year run with my first set. Got mine at Discount Tire here in the Twin Cities. TW

Posts: 555 Location: Tennessee | I'm running the same size Hi Run 6ply tires and I've been impressed so far. I'd probably go Maxxis between those to. I have a personal hatred for Goodyear and wouldn't put a Goodyear on a pushmower if they gave it to me. Just get the heaviest rated tire you can find.
