I'm going to be in the area this weekend, and looking for any water in the area for canoeing / sight seeing. Any good state parks nearby or canoe rental places that could be recommended? This is not a fishing trip, just looking for a place to enjoy any outdoor scenery anywhere close by.

Please respond to the thread or send me a PM if you have any recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

well theres plenty of that
sight seeing you have to define women or nature??
the Minneapolis city lakes calhoun harriet and nokomis all rent canoes and kayaks these lakes are peaceful in the way of no outboard motor traffic these are sailing and electric motor only lakes,,the calhoun chain consists of 3 connecting lakes calhoun-lake of the isles-cedar,,,this is right in the city of Minneapolis so you wont see deer or forest but a very nice park this is a very popular activity center for the metro a canoe tour of calhoun-lake of the isles-cedar I think you would find enjoyable with no speedboats or jetskis to wreck the fun and a good time even snackbars and retaurants with beutiful women who stroll around it if you google Minneapolis city parkboard you should get a ph number to call.

the rivers are just a slight high because we have had above average may rainfall but not dangerous.

The calhoun city park has good canoes and kayaks and all the supplys you need

I suggest getting a canoe and going from calhoun all the way to cedar. I live here and it never gets old!

I was sentenced to a weekend in the cities myself. Como park on Saturday. If I'm lucky I can get out early for good behaviour.

Taylors Falls area has the St Croix if you want a little more wild in your trip. An hour or less from town depending on where you are staying.

The St.Croix in Taylors Falls is no-wake and has rentals and is very scenic. That would be my best recommendation.

And if you don't have to go canoeing and don't want to drive that far head to Stillwater. Beautiful area with some good eats once you get down by the river. If I HAD to live in the metro area, that's the only place I'd live.

LIke the others said, Taylors Falls and the St. Croix are beautiful and a fun trip. Otherwise, with the warm weather this weekend the other type of "sightseeing" might be better on the city lakes or Minnetonka. There is a little place in Excelsior that rents kayaks and those paddle board things.

There's a canoe rental place right near the st croix in Grantsburg. They will drop you off at the river and pick you up down river. http://wildriverpaddling.com/
