Posts: 3 | Hello all! Does anyone have some recommendations for LotW lodges? I'm looking to book a father/son trip this late July and I've googling and searching this forum a bit without too much luck. I grew up in Illinois fishing muskie in northern Wisconsin and LotW but have lived my whole adult life down here in Dallas, TX. My 16 y/o son has been subjected to years of pictures and stories of LotW muskies so he's itching to get tight on one and this finally is the year We'll be flying in from Texas to MSP and driving the rest of the way. I'm looking for places within a few parameters: Sabaskong bay area good rental boats (40+hp, trolling motor, depth finder, etc. ) option for a guide a few days decent lodge/social area 6-8 days basically all inclusive (room/board/boat etc) except for gas etc In the past my dad and brother and I stayed at Red Wing a few times and another one that I can't recall the name (Morson? Molson?). I'm not trying to find the absolute cheapest or anything like that, just want to know that I'm getting what I pay for without any surprises or anything. Thanks alot Tim

Many have asked similar questions to yours (rental boats with bells and whistles, etc.) about LOTW and the Sab Bay area. Try running a search for "LOTW recommendations" or something similar.

Most (all?) of these recommendations won't have the "nice" rentals you're looking for. Red Wing and most lodges run 25HP motors on 16 ft boats (no trolling motor). In the early 2000s Red Wing gave us a portable depth finder and a net. Mike and Ann at Red Wing are terrific hosts. Buena Vista Resort is another option out of Morson. Less expensive than the others, I believe, but with ample accommodations (none of them are luxurious by any means).

Posts: 1169 Location: New Hope MN | My dad used to take me fishing in Canada all the time when i was a kid. The trip I always remember was our first trip to Nielsen's Lodge (Don’s place) in 1991. Nothing compares to Rowan lake. The action was incredible. The scenery was breath taking. Someday, if I’m ever blessed with a child, I’ll be taking them to Rowan.

The nicest resort on the lake with the nicest rental boats is Wiley point lodge, but your going to pay big bucks to go there. This place is nothing short of a five star hotel.

Posts: 175 | Tim - My son and I started going to LOTW together many moons ago and have always stayed at Sunset Cove in Nestor Falls. Nestor is cool because the wind is rarely if ever a show stopper. Wayne and Diann are great, very helpful http://www.lakeofthewoodssunsetcove.com I give them 5 stars for resort, facilities and location. PM me for spots, happy to help.

Posts: 2 | Look into Buena Vista Resort located right on the mainland of Sabaskong Bay. We stay there all the time when we go north. http://www.buenavistaresort.com/index.html

Posts: 42 Location: Ontario | www.totemresorts.com Best lodges on the lake, their Wiley Point Lodge is real nice, 5 star lodging and boats have everything your looking for new 40hp evinrude, HDS5 GPS/Sonar, they have transom mount trolling motors and the boat itself is indestructable (Triumph Boats). They have a great staff too. Its about 1hr from Nestor falls. Lots of guides that actually fish muskies. Games area has pool table, darts, shuffle board and a few arcade games. You can catch walleye off the dock easily every night or on the water too their everywhere. Shore lunch made everyday at the docks so you can get back to fishing quick.
