Hay guys me agin I was going to attempt to make a reef hog look a like. My buddy just loves these baits and thought I would try and make him one. My question is how do you think they make the cut outs in the head of it not the jaw part of it but the long narrow saw blade looking cuts on each side. I have been trying to figure out how but for the life of me cant figure out how to keep both side evenly. Anybody got any suggestions.

Shamrocker,

Big fan of the reef hawg myself. I think they use a jig and a table saw with a double kerf saw blade. I think a cleaner and easier way may be using a router, but a jig would still need to be made. My best guess....good luck, let us know how it turns out. What kind of wood are you thinking?

Well muskie slayer I made 3 up on the lathe, 2 with cedar and 1 with maple, I got the jaws cut out but am stumped on the other cut I gues I will attempt to make a jig and try the table saw. I will definately let you know how it goes. Hopen to keep all my fingers. I have recently made a few hog wobblers just made them a little bigger and didnt knotch at the center hopen to get a little more side to side on the rear end. They were just treated tonight so hopefully next weeks Ill have pics of them.

My suggestion would be, start with a piece of wood that is rectangular in shape and to the exact size of the bait. first make your side cuts with a saw than center the block of wood on a lathe and shape the cylindrical part of the bait. By making the cuts while they are rectangular and flat your cuts will be precise. You after to go easy where the cuts are when turning the bait so it will not chip agood sharp turning tool is a must

I've made copies and just used a junior hacksaw and a thin chisel. Worked perfectly well, just have to take your time lining everything up before you start.
