| How difficult would it be to install something like an HDS5 or Elite 5? I've installed a vexilar on the boat but thats about it.
Also does anyone have any experience with both lowrance units listed? Main concern is the unit being USER FRIENDLY. It's for my dad who will never use structure scan or network units together. He is computer illiterate to say the least. Obvioisly thinking the Elite 5 right now but prices are pretty close so just wondering if there is an advantage to the HDS unit that I am missing. |

| I've used both units and if they're similar in price, get the HDS. Much more capable. Yes, the Elite is going to be a little easier to use because it has fewer options, but honestly plug in the HDS and it will do most of what you want without changing many settings.
As far as mounting goes, tell us more about where you're mounting it and what type of boat. This will make a huge difference. Are you mounting it to the bow off of a trolling motor transducer, at the console off the back, etc... |

The boat is an 03 crestliner fishhawk sc with 60 merc 4stroke efi. Looking to mount the ducer on the back and the unit at the console. If it's possible I'd like to have the option to move it to the bow as well. That's what I currently do with the vexilar I am running. |

| Really shouldn't be too difficult. The hardest part of doing this operation would probably be running the wires. And depending on how you want this, it doesn't have to be difficult. You should have some "tubes" with wiring for the cables from the console to the back. Get your wires through there, hood them up, mount the ducer and go. If you don't have tubes or it's difficult to run them through, just run them under the gunnel and pin them up somehow. |

| Ok thanks for the help... sounds like the same thing I did with the vex. Ran wires right next to the throttle wires. No tubes so i just zip tied them together. Thanks again. |
