Subject: big enough motor

I'm looking at a 2001 lund 1650 explorer ss with a 2008 40hp E-TEC on it. I think max rating for this boat is 75. is this enough motor for this boat or is it going to be way underpowered? I'm overseas right now and having someone look at this boat for me. all the things i want it has and the price is good, but i am leary off the small motor thanks for your help

Way underpowered.

Underpowered, yes if the max is 75 hp, but depends on where you're fishing. If you're mostly on rinky dink water, not traveling far and not in a hurry, sure it'll push that boat. But if you're on any kind of decent water or plan to travel decent distances, say more than a mile or two I'd be you're going to want more power. I've been in more than tin boat with 50's and one with a 40 and the 50's were fine but the 40 was a bit of a dog. But they all got the job done.
