Location: Manitowish Waters WI | Has anyone had issues with their screen building up condensation on the inside. It happens at random times and I can't seem to get a straight answer from humminbird about the issue. I'm out of warranty now and would be willing to try a fix on my own if someone has one. I have heard of people taking the casing off and putting in silica pa kets but would like to know if it resolves the issue before I try it. |

Location: London, England | I've never had a finder that didn't do that sometimes! A friend of mine reckons it never happens to his because he keeps the unit indoors, and only fits it to the boat when he's fishing. Mine stays on the boat, so maybe that's part of the problem? |

| I experienced similar problems with the 500 and 700 series humminbird. I called support and they told me this is normal. I became increasingly frustrated in the fall not being able to read my graph so I started doing some research. My online research basically led me to why this happens with humminbirds and not lowrance. Lowrance units are nitrogen filled and sealed to prevent any type of moisture building up no matter the environment or climate outside. Humminbird units are sealed but only with air, which is my they have the condensation issues with the 500/700 series. My best advice for you is to try lowrance, since I switched two years ago this has been a non issue. Try a fix if anyone has one out there but you may better off selling and switching to another brand. Even though I absolutely loved my humminbirds the switch to lowrance has been worth reading a clear screen in the prime of the fall bite!!! |

Thanks Tim, I've tried it many times, in/out, out/in! out/out. It still fogs in the cold. Some times when i cast and one drop hits the screen condensation fills in underneath it. Guess I need to find a way to fill it with nitrogen,not much help out there for me the MI community. I'm boggled I'm the only one that has this issue but maybe others don't fish the awful fall days like I do. |

| I think it is all how you take care of them. If you leave you fish finders on your boat out in the snow all winter moisture tends to sneak in. Also don't put the face cover on your unit if you have got it wet. Moisture will be trapped between your display and cover for who knows how long. I always take my units off and bring them in the house and straight to the gun room. Humminbird 898c si and 788ci.
Try placing you fish finder in a bowl of rice. The rice will pull out all of the moisture I have used this method after going swimming with my cell phone on accident. Then bring them inside and keep them dry inside.

| Lowrance uses an optically bonded lcd. There is no place for condensation to form on the inner glass. I say take your locator off even while trailering, especially in the rain. |
