Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> CPR, the right way

I thought I was doing it right but after seeing it done another way, this is how to do it:

1) Catch a musky
2) Fling it into the boat, just like the bass pro's do.
3) Let it flop around on the deck, no hurry or anything, put on gloves, ect.
4) Have your buddy get the camera, grab the fish and take a picture. Let the fish settle down first, you want it to sit there a good two or three minutes.
5) Finally unhook the fish by hand.
6) Heave it back into the lake. The bigger the splash the better. It needs to revive you know.

And make sure you have a nice boat to, like a lund ss angler, so people think you know what you are doing.

Did the fish have a big splash (cannon ball)...or little splash (like an olympic dive)?

I believe good CPR is something that often has to be shown to folks. Its very possible they really dont know. The 10- second rule is simple, but very hard to understand for a new muskie angler who just catches his first fish or a multi-species angler who catches one by mistake.

I will really try to take Worrall out this fall and get a simple 10 second video on site to show first hand how a release should be done.

Todd - We got to witness a similar event out on the chain Saturday.

1. Fish hooked and battled
2. Partner messes with assembling a weird looking plastic framed cradle
3. Wrestle the fish into the cradle
4. Take the fish out of the cradle and hold it with one hand by the gill plate with a fabric construction glove.
5. Partner takes sweet time locating the camera and gets it out of the bag and gets instructions for use.
6. Pictures
7. Partner now starts to extract the bait/hooks from the cradle
8. Attempt to put fish back into cradle
9. Stand on the transom and torpedo the fish back into the lake like they do off 35' motor yachts on St. Clair.

The whole ordeal took, no exageration, atleast 7 minutes, probably more. Two other boats actually quit fishing and just stood on their boats in shock.
