Here's a couple fat pre-spawn NC muskies I got back in Feb. They were the first of the year for me and got them both in the 8 on a grandma. The first(the terrible pic) was about 45'' and got her in the pouring rain/sleet. Finally figured out why my self timed pics are turning out bad: focusing on closer objects. Anyways, the other was about 40'' and my buddy got some great photos of that fish. They went into the rivers to spawn early this year from the warm weather.

Question from someone who knows nothing of North Carolina muskies: Are those river fish or lake fish?
What do skis living as far south as North Carolina or Virginia do in the summertime? Can they be caught then? Or do they go down deep and wait out the warm water?

In this system, presumably, they are lake fish that come into the river to winter and then spawn. I do not see/hear about them being caught in the river in the summer, nor do I hear of them being caught in the lake (very low concentrations could have something to do with it) In the lake, water temps are in the mid to high 80's(DO NOT recommend chasing them in the summer)! Despite our fisheriers being in the moutains and being feed by trout streams, most waters in NC (cannot speak much for VA) are too warm to chase muskies in the summer( water temps are 80's to 90's) with the exception of a few rivers. This lake/river is not stocked and these are supposed natural fish(very low concentrations). They were accidently stocked in the late 70's early 80's. In this system, I believe, originally they are Ohio strain muskies from PA.
