Posts: 13 | hi i am looking for a reel for throwing big plastics in the fall without any problems. i did my research and looked at the calcutta 400 te. but i was also wandering if a calcutta 400b would do the job to. i dont care if it is more of a work out with the 400b i just want to know if the 400b would be durable enough to throw big rubber.

A buddy of mine has a 400b, I don't see him throwing the pounders on a regular basis mostly just the mag dawgs. However He does own a few and I know that he has used them. I just think he only throws pounders maybe 15% of the time.

Location: MN | A couple years ago I spent an entire trip throwing Pounders using a 400B and it did the job. The 400B wouldn't be my first choice reel for tossing big rubber but it will work fine. Last year I switched to a 700TE and it's awesome for this application, pure power. I know many guys who use the 400TE for big rubber, no complaints from them.

Posts: 546 Location: MN | Can someone explain to me what the difference between a 400b and 400te when it comes to throwing big rubber? It doesn't require a lot of cranking power to pull in dawgs, swimmin' joes, etc. I know that the TE's are smooth as a baby's butt, i dont see how it handles big rubber baits better.

Posts: 458 | Watch ebay for 400TE used reels. Try spelling Shimano wrong, CTE400 wrong and 400TE. I got a 401TE for $122 doing this.

Posts: 147 Location: Chesterton, Indiana | There is alot more plastic on a B then the TE to start. Line guide and thumb bar are good places to start. As for thowing platics with the B it can be done. I used a B a couple years ago as my main reel and now keep it as a back up in my boat. Many people who come along fishing use this reel in the fall to throw larger lures since they don't have a reel equivalent to this and I have had no problems to date. Heck its a shimano if anything goes wrong it can be fixed unlike many other reels that need to be thrown away.
