Has anyone ever tried to cut down the plastic lip of a crankbait so it runs shallower?
How would i go about doing it with out totally screwing up the crank itself?

I have done it. Sometimes I've killed the action, sometimes not. For what it's worth....... It works best to just angle the lips more, (as opposed to removing part of lips). Bend them back for shallower- and more forward angle to get deeper. I just try to heat up the lip carefully across the lip in the area needed to bend the lip. Of course some Cranks like Ernies have too thick of lips to bend. I have cut the sides off deep divers lips (Ernies) to make a tighter wobble.
In general cranks wobble better with more surface area to catch water, as opposed to less.

Rude nailed it. I've cut them down with a ban saw and/or sanded them with a belt sander to get desired length and shape. Of course, you could do it with hand tools of similar nature, but it may take longer. Remember, too, just becasue a bait has a rounded lip doesn't mean it won't work with a straight/square lip after you cut it off. If you try heating them up to bend them, I have had my best luck with a mini torch, as its easier to direct the heat in a straight line where you want the bend to occur. Good luck.
